Gordon Gumke
June 21, 1937 - April 15, 2026

Place of Birth: Logan County, North Dakota
Residence: Watford City, North Dakota
Age: 88

Gordon G. Gumke passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026.

Gordon dedicated his life to education, first as a teacher and later as a principal with Fairview, MT Schools. He was known for his steady leadership, fairness, and genuine care for his students and staff. He believed in doing things the right way and made a lasting impact on the many lives he guided and mentored throughout his career.

Outside of his work, he found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening—activities he cherished most when shared with family and friends. Gordon was a man of many talents, with skills in painting, knitting, crocheting, leatherwork, and taxidermy.

He will be remembered as a man of strength, humility, and quiet kindness. He didn’t seek attention, but his presence was deeply felt by those around him. His love for his family was constant, and the values he lived by will carry on through them.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all who provided Gordon with such compassionate care.

Gordon is survived by his two sisters, Mary Lou Konrad (Harvey, deceased) and LaDonna Berg (Gordie); his brother, Murray Gumke (Karen); and his son, David, along with David’s children, Michaela Samuelson (Scott), Ben Gumke, Logan Gumke (Molly), and Braedon Gumke; his daughter, Stacie Price (Matt), and her children, Taylor Price (Lexi) and Mason; his great-grandchildren, Easton and Leo Samuelson, Hudson Gumke, and Briella Price—who he took great pride in and brought him immense joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Marvelyn Gumke; his three brothers, Robert, Ramone, and Marlin; and his beloved wife, Darlene Veil Gumke, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years of marriage.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Good Shepherd Home to support the nurses and CNAs, and the outdoor arboretum.

Thoughts and prayers to the entire family. When Gordon was in Fairview, he took the time to help me mount my trophy antelope. Still have it and was a great experience.

To Mr Gumke's loved ones, One day, I got a call from him asking if I would substitute teach at the West Fairview grade school.. He was a great person to work for and Darlene babysat my son while I was at school. Thank you to Mr. Gumke, I enjoyed substituting and it gave me confidence that I was capable.. With prayers, blessings and memories. He was the best.

Mr. Gumke, you were nothing but nice & sweet to us girls (all 7 of us). Always greeting us students at the door of the building you standing there outside of your office door, never forgetting saying Hello to me & asking if there was anything you could do to help me with my sisters. Which I was so grateful knowing someone was looking out for me. Thank you. As I moved to Sidney starting high school there, I missed your smile asking me how was your summer, but yet you were still I'm Fairview, my school days of Fairview were behind me. You were always remembered from that point on, never forgetting that you could still be there asking me how my day or my summer was. Rest in Peace sir, I know you'll be standing there with a smile & a holdsome saying "how's your day?"
