Place of Birth: Williston, North Dakota

Age: 93

Edith Joan Iverson, 93, of Minot, formerly of Williston, North Dakota, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Trinity Health Hospital in Minot, ND.

Edith Joan Hayden was born in Williston North Dakota on February 26th 1930 to George and Ortense Hayden. The fourth of 14 children, they resided on the family farm east of Williston in Stony Creek Township until Edith was five years old. They moved into Williston where she attended Central School for elementary years. She went to boarding school in Willow City for beginning high school and later transferred to Williston High School.

It was there that she met the love of her life, Eugene Iverson. After she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for three years, Edith and Eugene were married in 1951. They moved to his family's farm and began their own family, bringing years of joy in farming mixed with all the trials that go with it. They had five children in those years and Edith found time to make the prairie bloom with her gardens and flowers. Doing those years, she was involved with a neighborhood birthday club, 4-H leader, Homemakers, and State Line Square Dance club. As her family grew more independent, she ventured out into the countryside as an Avon Lady. She continued this career for 45 years, winning sales awards consistently. She enjoyed the challenges of Avon but especially the many friendships she made with her customers.

As her faith was key to her life, Edith was very involved in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, belonging to the Catholic Daughters, Altar band, and as a Eucharistic Adorer.

After retiring from the farm, Gene and Edith moved into Williston to West Acres in 1983, and then into Williston in 2000. They had more time to travel, visiting Canada, Europe, and most of the 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. They enjoyed taking their RV to lakes to camp and fish for walleye, especially when joined by family. There were many family gatherings around Edith’s table. She enjoyed having all of her kids and grandkids together for family meals.

After Gene’s passing, she eventually moved into Golden Estates of Williston and then Maple View of Minot where she enjoyed the companionship of new friends and the wonderful care of staff.

Edith is survived by 4 children, Doug (Sandy) Iverson, Laurie (Mike) Brunelle, Lynne (Bill) Lawrence, and Don (Andrea) Iverson; daughter-in-law, Karen Iverson; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, 7 brothers; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; son, David; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Doug, (Sandy), Laurie, Lynne and Don and families:
My condolences on the loss of your mom. I have lots of memories of your parents and of course of Edith's "kids". Those were the days. It's difficult to lose our parents, no matter their age....the loss of a generation. Hugs, prayers and lots of love. Ruthie

To Edith's family:
I have known Edith & Gene for many years. Edith at Homemakers, square dancing & other activities. She was a classy , beautiful, very nice lady. I was elated when she came to Golden Estates. She was always ready to play & was always ready to learn new games. She & I played many hours of Skip-Bo,(her favorite game) I was so sorry to hear of her death. She has been missed here since she moved to Minot. The family took very excellent care of her & she told me many times how she appreciated her family. May God give each & everyone of you peace & comfort. Rest in Peace, my friend

Lynne and family: I am so sorry to hear of Edith’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you grieve her loss. I have seen Edith and Laurie out for lunch fairly recently. Usually at Dakota Farms. She always had a smile for my Mom and me. And I remember the Avon Lady very fondly.

My heartfelt sympathy to your family. I have so many memories of spending time at your house on sleepovers, listening to Ring of Fire on the hifi, sitting on the heater grate in the living room to warm up after being outside playing in the snow and too many memories to put here. I am out of town and won't make it to the service, but wanted you all to know I'm thinking of you and am sending prayers of comfort for you in your time of grief.

My sympathy to all of Edith's family on her passing. I remember most her gracious tolerance of the chaos at our house when she came on her Avon rounds. I didn't realize she was one of 14--perhaps that was a source of her equanimity. My mother would always try to buy something whem Edith came around, stating, "I'd never want her to stop coming!"
She made the world a better place.
