It Is Our Privilege And Purpose To Serve You
Adeline S Dige
February 20, 1924 - July 2, 2021

Place of Birth: Westby, Montana
Residence: Sidney, Montana
Age: 97

On Friday morning, July 2, 2021 our beloved mother and friend, Adeline Hansen Dige, slipped peacefully from the company of her family to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mom was a kind, loving Christian woman and an inspiration to her children.
Adeline was born February 20, 1924, youngest child of Frederik and Johanne Hansen, in the Emmaus community south of Westby, MT, completing the family of twelve girls and two boys. Her childhood was blessed with a home filled with love, family and God’s Word.
Like many of her generation, she often recounted the hardships and sacrifices that her parents made in raising 14 children on a 160-acre homestead on the Montana prairie. She was proud of her parents and her family’s Danish and pioneer heritage. Although there were difficult times, especially during the Depression years, Adeline had fond memories of her years up north on the farm.
During World War II, she lived in California making artillery shells for the U.S. Navy. In 1945, she returned to Montana and made Sidney her home to help care for her mother. It wasn’t long before she had a suitor, but as was common at that time, he was called up to serve in the military. When he left, he asked his close friend, an ambitious young farmer named Arnold Dige, to take care of Adeline in his absence. We’ve always teased that Dad made good on that promise and then some! On May 22, 1949, Adeline married her love, Arnold, at the newly completed Pella Lutheran Church. Together they welcomed 6 children to their home: Russell (Janice) Dige , Rosalyn Stegmaier, Anthony Dige, Patricia (Dale) Powell, Marilyn (Steve) Pust, and Rebbecca (David) Reidle and they in turn gave Arnold and Adeline thirteen grandchildren to love and cherish: Shirley, Amanda, Paul, Jan, Robyn, Katie, Christy, Mark, Jonathan, Trevor, Erick, Shelby and Shanyn and then came twelve blessed great-grandchildren: Joe, Paul, Sara, Henry, Astrid, Anna, Jack, Kate, Alexis, Shawn, Elizabeth and Greyson. The joy that our Mom had in having a beautiful home and preparing delicious meals for us and many guests was her great pleasure in life. In more recent years, no longer able to hostess, Mom passed the time embroidering dish towels for her children, grandchildren, friends and caregivers and enjoyed regular games of Bingo.
Her family would like to thank the many patient and compassionate nurses and aides that cared for Mom daily these past several years at The Lodge and more recently at Sidney Extended Care.
Forever loving and missing Adeline are her surviving children and their families, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a darling little namesake, Adeline Kate in Oklahoma, just starting her life’s journey. We will all strive to hold on to her words of wisdom:
“Love the Lord, do your very best in any endeavor you take on and be kind.”
We know that Adeline is now reunited in Heaven with her husband, Arnold, son Anthony, her parents Frederik and Johanne, siblings Adolph, Dagmar, Vita, Edith, Esther, Karen Marie, Lennert, Anna, Olivia, Louise, Marcella, Doris, an infant sister, son-in-law Robert Stegmaier and many Dige relations.

Dear Cousins, My heartfelt sympathies to you. I have enjoyed the warm loving hospitality at your parents home many times. Have heard about rook parties, scrabble games, beet harvests, travels, and many many more family activities. We share a great loving Danish heritage filled with God’s love. Dorthy

Dige Family—Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you during this grief journey.

Your dear Mom (and Dad) were always so kind to me—when I first met them when Pat and I were roommates at NDSCS and in all the years since that time.

The tears will come when you least expect them—perhaps when you are polishing the silver (or windows), preparing one of her favorite meals, setting the perfect table or remembering all of the memories you have of growing up in Sidney.

She would probably say her greatest accomplishment (including her love of Jesus) was her marriage to Arnold, each of her children (and their spouses) and her grandchildren. You put the sparkle in her eyes.

We were blessed to have our Moms live to such an advanced age. I know you miss her dearly.

To the Dige Family: I am sorry to see that your mother has passed away. It's hard to lose a parent at any time but losing your surviving parent increases the difficulty no matter their age or yours. I'm sure you have masses of wonderful memories of your parents, so speak of them often to keep their memories alive and vivid with lots of family stories to pass onto the grandchildren. My sympathies to all.

Dear Cousins,

It's a remarkable point in time--the last of the dear Hansen girls (whom we knew as our mothers and aunts) has gone Home.

Your dear Mother was my favorite aunt and your dear Dad my favorite uncle! Yes. In my young years, my favorite place to "be left" while my parents (Edith and Immanuel) were on some long trip in which I was not included as 7 or 8 year old, was to be left with Arnold and Adleline. So many blessings. So many memories. Those of us still on our pilgrim road anticipate seeing all of them again and forever. Sharon Larsen Torgerson

Our family farmed in Dane Valley near Culbertson. We attended Sunday services occasionally with family at Pella when we were going to be at the home of family members for dinner that day. Blessed memories.
