Dean Stuart DeMoe
July 19, 1962 - October 1, 2026

Residence: Tioga, North Dakota

Dean DeMoe, 64, formerly of Tioga, ND, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home in Plentywood, Montana, after a courageous battle with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. While Alzheimer’s ultimately took so much from him, it never took away the love he had for his family, his passion for life, or the impact he made on those around him.

After graduating from Tioga High School in 1980, Dean attended a year of college at UND-Williston and then entered the work force. A hardworking man by nature, Dean loved to work. Throughout his career, he held supervisory roles in both the oilfield and asbestos removal industries. He was a natural leader who took pride in doing a job well, looking out for the people he worked with, and never being afraid to get his hands dirty. Work was more than simply a job to him—it was something he genuinely enjoyed and took great pride in.

Dean met Debbie, the love of his life in 1987. Two years later, they were married, beginning a marriage that would span 37 years. Their love was one of the most important parts of Dean’s life, and it remained strong throughout his battle with Alzheimer’s. Even as the disease took away memories and abilities, Dean never forgot his wife. He knew who she was, and he continued to look at her with the same love in his eyes. Their bond was a beautiful reminder that some things run deeper than memory.

Above all else, Dean was a devoted and loving husband, father to Lindsey, Tyler and McKenna, and proud papa to Chesney and Kiplee. His family was his greatest accomplishment and his greatest source of pride. He was the kind of husband and father who was there supporting, encouraging, protecting, and loving his family through every season of life. The memories he created with them will be treasured forever.

He found happiness in being outside and took great pride in doing yardwork and hosting barbecues. Dean had a love for spending time on the water, whether he was fishing, taking a boat ride with family, or water skiing across the lake. He enjoyed doing the things he loved with the people he cared about most. He also had a lifelong passion for NASCAR, and when it came to football, he proudly cheered for the Denver Broncos and Alabama Crimson Tide.

Dean’s experience with early-onset Alzheimer’s gave him a purpose that extended far beyond himself. For the past 20 years, Dean was deeply committed to Alzheimer’s research and dedicated much of his life to helping find answers, improve understanding, and create hope for others facing this devastating disease. He believed that no family should have to experience what his did, and he worked tirelessly to make a difference. Dean and his family traveled attending many Alzheimer’s Family conferences and were honored to have spoken at some of them. Dean’s quote is one we live by to this day, “It's not what you’re dealt with in life, it's how you deal with it." His dedication to Alzheimer’s research will be an important part of the legacy he leaves behind, as his final contribution he donated his brain to further this cause. Although Alzheimer’s changed the course of his life, it did not define who he was. He was also a loyal friend and a person who cared deeply about making a difference in the lives of others.

Dean is survived by his beloved wife, Deb; his children, Tyler; McKenna (Rhett) Wolter; and Lindsey (Jon) Sarkilahti. his grandchildren; Chesney and Kiplee (and twin boys due in February); sister Karla (Matt) Hornstein; many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his treasured friends who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Galen and Gail DeMoe; his four siblings, Brian, Lori, Doug, and Jamie; his father- and mother-in-law, Roy and Marge Clark; his nephew, Brady; and many other beloved extended family members who also succumbed to Early-Onset Alzheimer’s disease.

His family takes comfort in knowing that his suffering has ended and that his memory will continue through the people he loved, the lives he touched, and the work he devoted himself to. His race is finished, but his legacy will continue.

He was deeply loved. He will be profoundly missed. And he will never be forgotten.

First, my sincerest of sincere condolences to the Demoe Family with Dean's passing. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Dean, Doug, and Brian (Toby Tyler) while working for RA Prather and Sons/NL Well Service in the oil fields around Tioga years ago. I read a lot of the family history and of the early-onset Alzheimer’s disease that devastated this family. I pray that the time and effort they gave for research may help others afflicted with this disease. God Bless and Godspeed, amen.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dean had the best smile and you never saw him without it. He was a hero for all the sacrifices he made to the research of Alzheimer’s. Another bright light gone too soon. Rest in peace Dean.

I’ve never met this man but I wish I had to thank him and his family for what they’ve done for Alzheimer’s Warriors everywhere. I am the daughter of an Early Onset Alzheimer’s diagnosed mother in Dickinson and I learned of your family through our Neurologist in Fargo. I wish your husband/father and his siblings could have seen the day of a world without Alzheimer’s. Because of them, we’re that much closer. Thank you for your selflessness to science and research from the bottom of my broken Alz Daughter heart.

DEAN, Your sister’s goodbye

There were six of us – four brothers and two sisters.  We shared a lifetime of family memories, laughter, growing up together, and the bond that only siblings can truly understand. The DeMoe house was a fun and welcoming place for all, and our mother made sure of that.  I think everyone has a special memory from their time with the DeMoes.  My brothers had so many friends that would gather in the yard and patio, and being on the main drag just seemed to attract even more. It was a party without having a party! I wish I could share one more family gathering with all of you.  I wish I could hear the laughter around our kitchen table one more time.  I wish I could go back to the days when all six of us were together, with our mother and dad loving us, never imagining how much we wouldone day have to endure.

Our mother was strong, devoted, loving and she gave everything she had to her children when the disease took our father away so early.  Dean, you became a part of who she was and shared a lot of her qualities - hardworking, fun-loving, mischievous, and the life of the party.  You knew how to make people laugh and bring fun into a room, just like her.  You had a personality that people remembered, and I hope those who knew you will always smile when they think of the stories and memories you left behind, and I hope they are shared this weekend.

I have so many memories with you that I will forever carry with me.  Our research trip with Brian and Doug to the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland to learn more about the disease became one of our best times together. The pictures with the nieces and nephews with you all having your front teeth missing were priceless.  The love you had for your dog Ace and Rookie were remarkable. The way you watered and took care of the yard just like our dad did was heartwarming. The way you calmed Jamie’s fears when he was facing his diagnosis was admirable. The love you had for your family and friends was like none other.  You were a great brother and man.  I will remember the good times, the laughter, and the memories that Alzheimer’s can never erase.

Your battle with early-onset Familial Alzheimer’s was cruel and unfair, just like all the rest of the siblings.  You all deserved more time, more memories, and more years with the people who loved you.  Yet even while facing this terrible disease, you all gave yourself to research in the hope of finding a cure.  You wanted to help others and give future families hope.  That says so much about you and our brothers and sister. Your lives were not defined by Alzheimer’s, it was defined by the difference you all hoped to make.   I’m proud, and Mom and Dad would be so proud too!

There are no words to express what it means to lose the last of my siblings to this terrible disease. I will keep your memories alive in the stories I tell and in the love I carry for the family we shared.  I have long felt both the pain of your absence in my life and the deep gratitude of having had you as my brother. There was still so much life you deserved to live, so many memories left to make, and so many moments I wish we could have shared.  You were my brother, my family, and a part of my life that can never be taken away. All five of you are gone from my sight, but none of you will ever be gone from my heart.

Forever your remaining loving sister,
Karla
