Iris Longtin, 96, of Williston, ND, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026 at her home. On her 90th birthday, she asked to make it to 95. On the 95th, she said she’d try for 100. She didn’t make it to 100 years, but still lived a happy, fulfilling life the way she wanted.
She was born, the third child of ten, to William and Frances Siguaw on December 6, 1929 in Milton, ND. She married Paul Longtin on June 1, 1949 at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Olga, ND. They had two daughters, Nancy Francis and Doris Mae, and one son, Pauly William in Walhalla before moving to Hayward, California in 1953 and completed their family with three more boys, Patrick Wayne, Perry Wade, and Philip Ward.
They bought and lived in various communities of the “Bay Area” before moving to Orland, in northern California in 1969. This was farm and orchard country and they seemed the happiest then. When her children married and moved on, she took various jobs at Penny’s, Musco Olive Co. and the newspaper office in distribution.
In 1979, they moved back to North Dakota. They settled in Williston for job opportunities and around 1983, when Paul moved back to Walhalla, Iris stayed in Williston. She was an active member of Tops for many years. She was known in many businesses by the hats she wore everywhere.
Iris loved crafts and making things, most of which she gave away. She crocheted numerous lap robes, children’s blankets, and dolls for Christmas donation boxes. She loved to enter contests for baking and her skills. She did excellent work on every item she created. Many of the family can attest to that.
