Gene H. “Skip” Wing was born October 4, 1948 to Harlan and Evelyn (Jacobs) Wing. He attended Sundt Country School until 1959, Central Point Schools until 1966 and South Oregon College until 1968. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1972 in United States, Okinawa and Vietnam. He married Marjorie Parks and to this union they had three sons. Their marriage ended in divorce; however, Skip was always proud of his time as a single dad.

Skip was involved in many businesses and organization of the years, including the American Legion, Mayor, Bottle Shop, Coin Shop and a long career as an investment advisor. He was on the NW Domestic Violence Board for many years, Mountrail County Veterans Service Officer for 29 years and Mountrail County Emergency Manager for 19 years. He was involved with cattle for many years, selling his “pets’ at the age of 75.

Skip was instrumental in the “Art in the Park”, the monument in the Veteran’s Park and the statewide effort to establish a Western North Dakota Veteran’s Home.

Skip was involved in the 4th of July Parade Committee for many years along with a number of other committees. Skip was a member of the American Legion Post 134, Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, Life Member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a Life Member of The Wing Family of America.

He is survived by his sons, John (Tina), Mike (Crystal) and Steve (Jason); 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his work family; Lisa Lapica, Kayla (Kyle) Iwen, Logan Lapica; and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 4 brothers, Jerry, Hap, Dick and Jacque.

It was a pleasure to take care of Skip. In the short time I spent with him we had many talks. He was a very wise man and very kind. Im sorry for your loss.
