Mary Lydia Bieber (Kreis) passed away in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the Dougherty Hospice House on May 11th, 2026.
Mary was born on October 25, 1931, in Hebron, North Dakota, to Henry and Louise (Mees) Kreis. She was the seventh of nine children.
On June 5, 1953, Mary married the love of her life, Edwin Bieber. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, faith, and community. They were blessed with three children: Bonnie Lou Bieber, Byron Edwin Bieber, and Brent Allan Bieber.
Mary was known for her fierce determination, sharp mind, and independent spirit. She believed in staying active and walked to work every day simply because she loved to walk. Her dedication to her community led her to become the first female Richland County Treasurer in Sidney, Montana — a milestone that reflected both her relentless perseverance and well earned community respect.
Music was one of Mary’s lifelong joys. She loved playing the piano and sharing her gift of song. At just three years old, she sang her first church solo, stating in her journal that “they would often pick me up, set me on the platforms and I would sing with all my heart.” Despite her tiny stature, she was destined to be seen and heard.
Those who knew Mary, she will be remembered by her intelligence, wit, strong opinions, high standards of cleanliness, and deep love and devotion to her family. Mary spent the last several years of her life in the care of her beloved son, Brent and daughter in law Tana Bieber. She was surrounded by love until the end.
Mary is precessed in death by her husband, Edwin Bieber and two of her children, Byron Edwin and Bonnie Lou.
Mary is survived by her son, Brent (Tana) Bieber, her grandchildren Lisa McAndrews, Aaron (Monica) Janssen, Elizabeth Bieber and Katherine (Isak) Bieber, and her youngest sister Rebecca Beach. Mary was blessed with five great grandchildren.
Mary Lydia Bieber was a truly unforgettable woman. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
