Bryce Witt
January 18, 1952 - February 8, 2026

Place of Birth: Sidney, Montana
Residence: Sidney, Montana
Age: 74

Bryce V. Witt passed away on February 8, 2026, at Intermountain Health in Billings, MT under hospice services. Bryce has been battling dementia for over a year with a recent decline in cognition and health.

Bryce was born on January 18, 1952, to LaVerne and Florence (Ruth) Witt at the Community Memorial Hospital in Sidney, MT. He was the youngest of the four children, welcomed by Sonja, Sandra and Ellen. His parents divorced when he was young, and two more siblings followed LaVerne’s second marriage, David and Susan Witt of Wisconsin. Bryce attended Sidney Public Schools until his junior year of high school and graduated from Charles M Russell High School in Great Falls, MT in 1970. In his younger years, Bryce enjoyed time with his family at the family ranches, Veebaray and Lone Tree. He also could be found with his best friend Jim and his family. While attending school in Great Falls, he resided with his uncle Hugh Anderson and his wife Edy and family for one semester, then he and his mother moved into an apartment after Ruth was hired to work in the lab at Deaconess Hospital. Hugh encouraged Bryce to go out for the cross-country team, and Bryce’s greatest wish in the last few years was to be able to run again. Bryce had many happy memories of his time with their family and told lots of stories of his time with his uncle, such as flying organs for donation in Hugh’s plane to deliver to a waiting recipient. Bryce also traveled with Edy and Hugh, with Hugh as the pilot, to the Grand Canyon and Disneyland. Bryce was with Hugh’s family camping in western Montana on the day of the moon walk, and they drove fast to make it home to see it on TV.

Following graduation, Bryce attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He left college for a year to attend NEI in Minneapolis and worked for Univac assembling power supplies for submarines. Bryce returned to Concordia receiving his Biology degree in 1975. While at Concordia he was a member of Kappa Theta Phi. It was during this time that a mutual friend introduced him to Marilyn Torgerson.
Bryce and Marilyn married March 29,1975. They initially resided in Fargo, North Dakota while Bryce completed his degree. Initially employed at Horvik Electric in Moorhead, they soon decided to return to Sidney. He held many jobs after returning to Sidney including the Eastern Montana Agricultural Research Center, USDA Research Center, Holly Sugar, Valley Hardware, Lone Tree Ranch, Schwan's, and MDU. He was known as the guy who could fix almost anything often at no or little charge. He enjoyed helping neighbors and strangers alike and often took his snow blower out into the street in heavy storms to help people get through the road when people ventured out before the streets had been cleared. Jerome Kessler, a neighbor, even mentioned this act in his book “Dr. Dirt”. Bryce was always giving time and money to people in need, even when he really didn’t have much to spare. He spent numerous hours at the laundry mat repairing machines. Bryce was also known to be doing things around the house and suddenly belting out different songs such as “Yellow Submarine” and other Beatles hits, as well as “Help Me Rhonda” when his sister-in-law was around to (pleasantly) annoy her. Another thing Bryce enjoyed was watching his sons play hockey, and he spent numerous hours at the old frozen pond, the “hockey bubble”, and newer rink volunteering. He enjoyed watching his grandkids playing hockey as well, and in his last months carried around the hockey schedule for his grandson and asked daily if there was a game he was supposed to be watching.

Bryce is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughter Sacha (Shad), son Brendan (Shay), son Keegan, grandkids Darian, Breckin, Kamden, Tyra, Kale, Hadley, Anze and Mikko, bonus grandkids Braeden, Brooklyn and Jemma, one great granddaughter Aspen and a second great grandchild due in May. Bryce is also survived by his mother-in-law Ardys Torgerson, his sisters Sandra (John), Ellen (Loren), and Susan and his brother David (Diana), brothers-in-law Glenn (Joy), Myron (Julie) and Chris (Susan), sisters-in-law LaVonne (Henry), Connie, Cynthia, Rhonda (Todd), Naomi (Dave) and Cindy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Bryce is also survived by his aunt Edy, who he said was like another mother, and her children Leslie (Joe) and Steve (Carol Ann) and their families.

Bryce was preceded in death by his parents, LaVerne and Ruth, his sister Sonja, father-in-law Mervin Torgerson, and two brothers-in-law Larry and Rod. His grandparents, beloved uncle Hugh, and his cousin Kyle also preceded him in death.

Dearest Brendan, Shay, Tyra, Kale, and Hadley,
We'd like to offer our sympathy towards all of you and your extended family and friends. Having recently lost my own parent I know firsthand the waves of emotion you'll likely experience. Think of good days you have had together. Don't mourn the loss of life but celebrate the time you had with one another.

Thank you.. for being in my memories, for all your bad jokes, every time you got my name "wrong", and thank you, most of all, for sharing your family and home with the likes of me. Rest Easy, Bryce.

I deeply regret that I was not able to personally attend the Memorial Service. I celebrate his friendship in life and will continue to grieve the loss.
Bryce Vaux Witt was my best friend from grade school, junior high, high school, and beyond.
At Sidney Central Elementary, in fifth grade, I was placed in the classroom with the end of the alphabet. Bryce and I became inseparable. We moved on from the Calvin & Hobbes-ian
Girl Haters Club into middle school, where our tastes in girls definitely changed. We were both geeks, nerds, and had awkward social lives. We followed the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings, despite losses in the World Series, and Super Bowls, respectively. We liked the same music, (not so much the Country Music of the time) we once worked cleaning the kennels. My recollection is that Bryce’s father was a veterinarian at that clinic. I let Bryce down our Freshman year, when he asked a girl to the dance on the understanding that I would go too. In the event, I chickened out. Bryce went and had a good time, and graciously forgave me for ducking out.
One Halloween we pranked the high school by raising a home-made Jolly Roger Pirate flag complete with skull and crossbones over the school. To our great disappointment, the janitor arrived before dawn, took it down and threw it away, so it went unseen by any fellow students.
Memories include painting a lattice fence for his grandfather Sig Anderson, on what must have been the hottest day of the year. I wish we could have been as clever as Tom Sawyer, getting our neighborhood friends to pay for the privilege of painting a fence.
I loved going to his lake cabin, and in the winter, skating on the frozen ice.
I was heartbroken when he moved to Great Falls, finishing his high school career at Charley Russel.
At Concordia in Moorhead Minnesota, he established a reputation for going outside in the cold from class to class in his shirtsleeves!
Bryce and Marilyn always graciously hosted our family when we went back to Sidney to see my folks, and for class reunions. He was an honorary member of SHS class of 1970. I always thought I would see him again at our next reunion.
I just miss him terribly.
