Place of Birth: Dahl Family Farm, North of Carman's Store, North Dakota

JoAnn Marilyn (Dahl) Faulkner was born February 19, 1939, to John & Mildred (Sorenson) Dahl. She was born on a snowy day on the Dahl farm north of Carmen’s Store. Her Dad drove his horse & sleigh to Carmen’s Store. He then called Dr. P.O.C. Johnson to come deliver JoAnn. Dr. Johnson drove his Model T to Carmen’s Store & rode with John to deliver JoAnn. The first of 11 children born to John & Mildred.

JoAnn was first named Mar Jo for 2 months until Uncle Amil Dahl named a calf Mar Jo. JoAnn’s mother then was upset & mailed $1.00 to Vital Statistics in Bismarck to have her name changed to JoAnn Marilyn.

JoAnn was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Keene, ND. She attended grade school at Keogh School. She attended high school for 2 years in Watford City and graduated from New Town High School in 1957.

JoAnn met the love of her life, Grover (GM) Faulkner and they were married 3 days after graduation at the Wesleyan parsonage. They lost their first daughter, Amy at birth. Brenda was born in 1960 followed by their son, Jay in 1965.

JoAnn drove school bus for 17 years from Keene to Johnson’s Corner. She worked at New Town Nursing Home for several years. She then moved with her family to Watford City. She worked at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home as a CNA for several years & then transferred to the Watford City Hospital as a CNA for 10 years. She then changed careers and worked at Barrett Pharmacy for 25 years. Her specialty was in the fabric department. After Grover’s death, JoAnn married Dennis Bingeman in October 2011.

JoAnn has been blessed with 4 grandsons, 3 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters. She has been blessed with many great friends through the years. Her grandchildren affectionately call her Granny Jo.

JoAnn was a member of the Eagles for over 19 years and served as a Conductor for many years. She has been involved in her grandchildren & great grandchildren’s lives. She loved to sew special projects for them. Quilting was one of her favorite pastimes and loved gifting them to family, friends and neighbors. Advice from JoAnn “always put on your red lipstick when out in public! We always kept a tube of red lipstick in the glove compartment, and we girls and mom would put it on before going to get the mail."

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Grover & Dennis; infant daughter, Amy; brothers, Duane and Randy Dahl; sister, Darlene Hurt; nephews, Craig Skaar, & Flint Dahl & special sister-in-law, Margaret Dahl.

JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Rodney) Johnsrud; her son, Jay (Denise) Faulkner; grandsons, Andy (Jasmine) Johnsrud, Austin (Megan) Johnsrud, Jacob Faulkner and Kory Faulkner; great grandchildren, Tate Johnsrud, Emma Johnsrud, Henry Johnsrud, Owen Johnsrud, and Mayson Faulkner; brothers, Dave Dahl, Clifford (Debbie) Dahl, Eugene (Beth) Dahl; sisters, Judy (Cliff) Skaar, Sandra (Russell) Johnson, Julie (Harvey) Figinger, and Bonnie Belcourt. JoAnn is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

So sorry to hear about JoAnn passing. She was such a positive presence in my life. I will miss our visits. JoAnn was so proud of her grandchildren. I can hear her laughing as she told fun memories of them. Granny Jo will be very much missed. Take comfort in knowing she’s walking streets of gold. No more suffering.
