Janice Hogue, 88, of Williston, ND passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Unsong Assisted Living Center in Minot, ND.

Janice Abell Hogue was born on April 11, 1937 in Ambrose, ND to Jim and Edna Abell.

She was raised and attended grades 1 – 8 in Fortuna, ND. Jan then commuted back and forth attended Crosby High school to attend 9 - 12 grade until she graduated. Attending college in Minot, ND where she earned her teaching degree and went onto teaching in a 1 room schoolhouse.

Jan met Ronald Norman Hogue and they were married on July 17, 1958. They had 3 children, Judy Kay Hogue in 1960, Ronald James Hogue in 1961 and Randy Carl Hogue in 1964. The family lived in Fargo, Tioga and Williston, ND.

She worked at MaBell in Fargo, was the manager for Nutri-System for the Williston area and Jan and Ron owned Excel Cleaning Service in Williston.

Her hobbies included gardening, playing cards and she enjoyed working on crafts. Spending many hours writing poems regarding different times in her life. She also wrote a book about adoption.

“Grandma Jan” was a title she earned by being a foster grandma at Trinity Christian School for many years.

Unfortunately, Jan fell and broke her hip in 2022 and moved to Elison Assisted Living then onto Unsong Assisted Living in Minot, ND until her death on June 1, 2025.

Jan is survived by her children, Judy Hogue or Williston, Ronald Hogue of Buckeye, AZ, Randy Hogue of Minot, ND; grandchildren, Doug, Kay (Dan), Jeri (Randi), Garrett, Justin, Tayler, Andrew, Pete; 12 great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, cousins; best friends, Don and Coleen Jones, Larry and Rae Olson and the many people they took into their hearts and unofficial adopted.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; parents; grandparents; granddaughter, Ashlie Schnieder; aunts, uncles.

I am very sorry for the loss of our great neighbor Jan. I played many card games of casino with her just about every night. She will be missed very much by everyone that knew her. Now she will be with Ron in heaven. RIP Jan

My condolences to all the family on the passing of Janice. She was such a wonderful "Foster Grandma" to so many of the children at school and else where. It was a pleasure working with her as the Coordinator of the Foster Grandparent Program in Williston.
