LaVerne Arthur Haga
July 5, 1949 - April 9, 2025

Residence: Tioga, ND formerly of Noonan, ND

LaVerne A. Haga, 75, of Tioga, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, at Tioga Medical Center. Born July 5, 1949, in Columbus, North Dakota, LaVerne was the son of the late Mae (Frontfelter) Haga and Arthur “Art” Haga.

LaVerne grew up in Columbus and graduated with the Class of 1968 from Columbus High School. A hardworking man with a strong spirit, he spent much of his life as a truck driver, traveling many roads but always keeping his heart close to home.

Proud of his Norwegian heritage, LaVerne held a special place in his heart for lutefisk—a dish that reminded him dearly of his late grandmother, Louise (Hoff) Haga. His love for family traditions was only matched by his passion for westerns, his warm sense of humor, and the joy he found in being surrounded by good people.

LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved brothers, Lowell and Leroy Haga; and his son, Lowell Haga-Leas. He is survived by his loving daughter, Joy Kruchowski, fiancé, Laurie Sund, his beloved dog, Toby as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who will continue to carry his memory forward.

For the last 3 years Laverne was a resident at Tioga Medical Center. His presence at the nurses station became an everyday staple. Many times staff joked that he should answer phones and get to work and he would reply with “oh yeah”. Laverne participated in special occasion events with staff including becoming a photoshopped member of a providers family pictures for a scrapbook and making his yearly Halloween costume with staff even though he hated arts and crafts.

Laverne may have had a gruff exterior, but those who took the time to know him were rewarded with the warmth of a true softy beneath the surface who cared for anyone that took time out of their day to visit with him. He was a stubborn man who always just needed “a damn minute”. LaVerne’s laughter, easy smile, and joyful presence lit up every room he entered. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and loving him. The happiness he brought to our lives will never be forgotten.
