Eddie graduated from High School in Sidney, Montana. He was very proud that he was the only one from his family that graduated from high school.

On December 9, 1945, Eddie and Frances Gardner married and they started their lives together on the family farm north of Fairview, where they raised 4 children: Larry, Barb, Doug and Scott. He was very proud of his German heritage and told many great stories that his family will cherish. He was very proud to be a farmer and to pass that legacy on. He enjoyed going to the coffee shop and visiting about all the happenings in the Yellowstone Valley. He had an unwavering faith that he shared with his family. After retiring from farming in 1991 he enjoyed helping out on the farm, taking care of his yard and helping Frances with the Modern Lady dress shop in Sidney. In 2007 he moved to Fairview where he lived until 2017 when he moved into The Lodge in Sidney.

Eddie was also very involved in the community. He was a charter member of the Fairview Jaycees and also honored to be a senator in the Jaycees. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview where he was also on the council, a member and chairman of the Fairview School Board, a board member and chairman of the Montana Dakota Beet Growers Association and he was on the board of the First United Bank of Sidney. In 2019 Eddie was honored to be the Honoree for the Old Timers Festival in Fairview.

I had the pleasure of meeting Eddie when I traveled from Glendive to The Lodge to work as a CNA. He quickly became one of my favorites. Even tho I only worked on an on call basis & wasn’t there often, Eddie would see me & say, “there’s my Glendive girl.” He was so sweet and so pleasant to visit with. My deepest sympathy to the family of this dear man.
