Patricia Jeane Lautenschlager
March 11, 1939 - July 31, 2024

Place of Birth: Kenmare, North Dakota
Residence: Stanley, North Dakota
Age: 85

Patricia Jeane Lautenschlager went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 31, 2024. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.

Pat was born on the family farm in Kenmare, ND on March 11, 1939, to Royce and Louise (Parkinson) Frederick. She was the second of five children, growing up alongside her siblings; Shirley, Bob, Butch, and Bonnie. She graduated form Kenmare High School in 1957 and married the love of her life, Paul “Jerome” Lautenschlager, on July 12, 1959, in her hometown. They shared 64 wonderful years of marriage and raised three children; Steve, Scott, and Renae.

Pat developed a love for sewing at a young age. Starting at 16, she quickly became skilled in sewing and alterations. Pat made clothing and many other useful items for herself and her family, extending all the way down to her great-grandkids. She became well-known in her community for creating a wide variety of items, from special occasion dresses to burp cloths. Her talent with an embroidery machine allowed her to craft personalized items, beautiful dish towels, quilts, and baby blankets. Pat enjoyed visiting with both old friends and new customers, always remaining humble about her talents. She often said “I’m not sure if I can do that; I’ll have to take a look at it” but she always found a way to make things work. Pat loved teaching her family members how to sew and was always ready and willing to help with any project, big or small. Her family will forever remember her mantra; “Press and sew, press and sew”.

Pat was always baking, most notably her famous buns. She always had fresh baked goods on the counter for family members who stopped by or friends who came for coffee visits. During holidays, Pat made everyone’s favorite treats and knew exactly what each person liked. She also enjoyed decorating and redecorating her house, frequently changing out comforters and sewing curtains to match. Everything in her home had its place, and nothing was ever out of order. Pat was an exceptional homemaker.

Pat held various roles throughout her life, including working at the bank in Kenmare, the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Department, and the bank in McClusky. She took several years off to dedicate herself to raising her family and later returned to work in 1979 as the secretary of the American Lutheran Church in Stanley, a role she held until 1986.

Pat is survived by her children; Steve (Brenda) Lautenschlager, Scott Lautenschlager, Renae (Duc) Thiel; her siblings, Shirley Grisel, Bob (Carol) Frederick, Butch (Vivian) Frederick, and Bonnie (Rod) Harris; her grandchildren, Alex (Krista) Lautenschlager, Tyler (Ryan Walter) Lautenschlager, Ben Lautenschlager, Ethan (Mercedes) Lautenschlager, Madison Kjer, Charlie Kjer, Dodie (Dennis) Renner, Kacey Cope (Ryan Young), Tyler (Ashley) Thiel, Shayna (Jared) Rognlien, Jenna (Vernon) Snyder, Kyli (Drew) Drosdal, and Kori (Ty) Taylor; and many well loved great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerome; her parents, Royce and Louise; her grandson, Cullen Lautenschlager; and brothers-in-law, Joe Strasser and Pete Grisel.

We were saddened to learn of Pat's death. When we moved to Stanley she and Jerome were among the first to welcome us. I called her Patty and she said, "I can tell you are from Kenmare as here they call me Pat." We always enjoyed our visits with Jerome and Pat. Last time I saw her was at Barb Pumarlo's funeral and she gave us both a big hug. God Bless the memory of Pat.
