Place of Birth: Perth, North Dakota

Vernon M. Knudson born to Elen (Mathiason) and Henry Knudson in Perth, ND on December 29th 1940. He attended school in St. John, Bisbee, and Perth, ND. Vernon passed away April 19th 2024 with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side.

Vernon worked various jobs as a young man for farmers near Perth. Vernon married Norene Tingelstad in St. John, on November 15th 1963 to this union three children were born; Lorena Lambrecht, Norman and Vernon Lee Knudson.

Vernon worked in road construction one summer after getting married until moving to Tioga in February 1965 where he went to work for Lawrence Transportation working for 40 years before retirement in 2005. He also worked for the Tioga Machine Shop for a time after retirement.

Vernon was a hard worker and often worked long hours in order to provide for his wife and children. In the later years after his grandchildren were born you would often find the babies in his arms in a rocking chair. Vernon loved all children and his goal was to win over any child he would come in contact with.

Vernon preferred to stay close to home but he did go on several bus tours with his wife and in-laws. Vernon was a man who could fix anything, a man of all trades. Whether that be an electrician, mechanic, or a plumber he was a self-taught man and passed down some of these traits to his sons.

After Vernon was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014 where he eventually went to live at the Tioga Long Term Care on April 5th 2016. During this time Norene was a devoted and loving wife spending nearly every day at the nursing home visiting and caring for him. During COVID you would find her standing at the window if even for just a couple of minutes.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Norene of 60 years and their children, Lorena (Daren) Lambrecht, Norman (Jennifer) and Vernon Lee (Diane). Grandchildren, Krista Lambrecht, Kelsey (Andrew) Wiseman, Austin (Abigail) Knudson, Andrew Knudson, Ashlee Raasakka, Paitynn Knudson, Kaylee (Corey) Larson, Keein Knudson, Konner Knudson. Great-grandchildren, Rowan and Ezra Knudson, Harrison Raasakka, Tucker Larson. Vernon is survived as well by his only sister, Elenora as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; mother; and father-in-law, Norman and Lorraine Tingelstad and his seven brothers, Arnold, Benard, Kenneth, Willard, Edward, Marvin, and Larry.
