Randall Paul Keehn
July 12, 1952 - January 21, 2024

Place of Birth: Des Moines, Iowa
Residence: Bismarck, ND formerly of Williston, ND
Age: 71

Reverend Randall “Randy” Keehn, 71, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at St Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck, ND. He was a devoted husband, father, oompa, brother, cousin and uncle.

Randy was born on July 12, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1970 and went on to study history at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa where he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in 1974. His proficiency in Spanish and a high score in a civil service test led him to a career in the Social Security Administration. His first placement as a Claims Representative was in Milwaukee, WI. He then moved to Williston, North Dakota where he was the Office Manager at the Social Security Administration, where he worked with the community for 34 years. It was there that Randy met the love of his life, Jo Ann Black Hawk in 1981 and their love story began.

The two were wed on April 5, 1986, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Williston and together with Jo Ann’s daughter Joni they started their little family. In June 1987, they welcomed their daughter PJ into their lives and in 1992, their family was complete with the addition of their son Rob.

Randy was very active in the church and in 1999 he was ordained as a Canon 9 priest. He enjoyed his service to the Lord and after he retired from the Social Security Administration, he went back to school to obtain his Master of Theology degree at the Nashotah House Theological Seminary in 2016. After graduating, he went on to serve as a Priest at St. Michael’s and All Angels church in Cartwright, ND where he served for 2 years.

Being an active part of the community was important to Randy. He joined Rotary in 1981 and was a proud “Paul Harris” recipient. He enjoyed the opportunity to host the Rotary “Auction for Action” each year. He was also a loyal toastmaster in both the Shining Star and Western Star clubs where he earned his DTM, Distinguished Toast Master. He was involved in leadership Williston as their speech specialist. Randy was also a Cub Master for about ten years. He enjoyed his trivia night with his Joe Garagiola fan club. Randy had a passion for reading and acquired quite a library in his lifetime.

Randy is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann Keehn; his children, Joni Cadotte, Pamela “PJ” Keehn, and Robert “Rob” (Ashley) Keehn; grandchildren, Desiree (Harley), Sierra (Jalen), Carissa, Jaylei, and Sadie; and 4 great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, Larry Keehn; sister, Barb Keehn; cousins, Steve (Mary) Kersten and Kay (Bob) Flippin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jeannette Keehn; and special aunt, Ruthmae Kersten.

Randy was my neighbor in the dormitory at Luther College in 1970. We shared many adventures including deep sea fishing out of San Diego. From there we took his jeep down the Baja peninsula.

Sherrie and I were privileged to attend Randy and JoAnn’s wedding. Randy was never lonely again. We saw them in Sioux Falls a few times after that.

Be at peace friend.

I met Randy with Jo Ann at an assisted living memory care facility some years ago. Although I was not able to converse with Randy, He was with him all the days here on Earth. Rest in Peace, Randy.

Joann, I have missed seeing you and Randy since you left Williston. I know he was in his best self as a Reverend. He just had that aura and gift about him. So thankful that Girl Scout involvement provided my opportunity to know both of you, and Joni! Your story of finding his love is the sweetest. Be well, know you are loved, and had the best!!
