Visitation
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City with a Family & Friends Service to be held at 6:00 PM.

Service
Barbara’s Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Watford City, ND. Pastor Paul Balaban will officiate.

Barbara Lynn (Schafer) Voll, 69, of Watford City, passed away at Sanford Medical Center on April 9th, 2023. Barb was born December 21st, 1953, to Robert and Carol (Nelson) Schafer in Worthington, MN. She was the oldest of five siblings: three brothers and one sister. She graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1972. After high school, she graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. While attending college, she met Doug Voll. The two were married in 1975 in Mahnomen, MN. From this union they welcomed two sons, Justin and Wyatt.

Throughout the years, Barb lived with her family in Heil, Rhame, and Bowman, ND and Springfield, MN. In November of 1991, the family moved to Watford City. Each stop gained lifetime friends, including those Barb met while following her children to their football, baseball, and hockey games. In 2001, Barb moved to Fargo to be closer to her kids before finally returning to Watford City in 2008, where she lived until the time of her death.

Barb’s grandchildren were her purpose and the loves of her life. She never missed a sporting event or activity and would proudly wear their sports pins everywhere she went. One quick look at her refrigerator and you could see every one of her grandchildren’s, nieces', and nephews' recent achievements. She was their biggest cheerleader in all things. She also loved playing games with the grandkids, especially Sorry; and watching/singing Mamma Mia with her granddaughters. She loved reading, was an excellent baker, a flower enthusiast, and an avid walker who got a kick out of people stopping to ask her if she needed a ride. She spoiled her family often with her wonderful baked goods. Not a holiday or birthday went by without homemade buns, Christmas/Easter bread, or some other delicious treat. Barb was very active in her church and community. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Peace Circle and also delivered Meals on Wheels.

She will be missed dearly by all those who loved her. Barb was preceded in death by her mother, Carol. She is survived by her father, Robert Schafer, Mahnomen, MN; her two sons, Justin (Leah) Voll of Watford City, ND and their children, Ashleigh and Carson Voll, and Wyatt (LeAnne) Voll of Watford City, ND and their children, Jackson and Quinn Voll; brothers, Don (Becky) Schafer, Baker City, OR, Ron (Cindy) Schafer, Mahnomen, MN, Mark (Nola) Schafer, Flasher, ND; sister, Jean (Eric) Pucek, Jeannette, PA; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Dear Justin, Leah, Wyatt, LeAnne and families...I am so saddened and shocked at the passing of your mom. She was such a vital part of our church and circle....I can't imagine it without her. So very sad to hear the news of Barb's passing. I have many memories of babysitting for her boys when they lived at Oxley Hereford Ranch. Now, I appreciate even more, that the Schafer's had the memorial for their mother, Carol, and we were able to quickly get caught up. Barb always reminded me of Carol, the voice and the laugh. She will be missed.

Justin and Wyatt, I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Barb. I spent one year in Springfield, MN (1990) teaching and she was my para. We were pretty connected but both of us left after my first year, which is when you moved to Watford City. As the years passed she would send me Christmas cards and keep me in the loop of the happenings in Springfield. The years passed and we no longer communicated. Last year as I was preparing to move I was going through old photos and Christmas cards and found some from your mom. Over the past year I tried to find her off and on via social media but I did not have any luck. Recently I met a woman who grew up in Watford City and shared with her my quest to find your mom. She did some digging and just yesterday she told me of your mom's passing. She was such a wonderful woman who took a young first year teacher, making feel comfortable and welcomed in Springfield. I really wish we could have reconnected. She was a blessing and will be missed.
