Randall "Randy" Moe
February 24, 1956 - July 19, 2022

Place of Birth: Stanley, North Dakota
Residence: Tioga, North Dakota
Age: 66

Randall “Randy” M. Moe, 66, of Tioga, North Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Epping, ND.

Randy Medford Moe was born February 24, 1956 to Julia and Elmer Moe. He had many wonderful stories of growing up in White Earth as one of 14 kids. Randy spent his entire life’s work in the oil field. He started at the tender age of 14 and worked until the day of his passing; always learning always teaching. He started in the oilfield working with his brother Johny Moe at KBM Well service, eventually the two of them going out on their own as Moe Well Service where he worked, for 40 plus years, alongside his brother. He had many jobs and titles throughout the oilfield, but everyone knew him as “Chief,” which means “Most important or influential, one who is highest in rank or authority; a leader.” When Randy wasn’t working on the rigs, he would be at the farm helping his brother Johny. Randy had a special gift and talent for making anything, whether it was new pipe corrals and gates or building new calving pens for his cows. The things that he could engineer in his mind was nothing short of legendary. He was so proud of what he built and had to show everyone. The raw talent and hard work ethic of Randy is undeniable. He was everyone’s go to, it was always call and ask Randy, he’ll know.

Randy went to Tioga High School where he graduated in 1974. This is where he met and eventually married DianaJean Davidson in 1978. Through this unity they had their daughter Amanda. A few years after her birth, Randy and Diana ended their marriage but remained lifelong friends.

One of Randy’s favorite things was being a dad. Amanda was his pride and joy. When she was born, he would walk up and down the halls singing the song “Amanda” by Waylon Jennings. Randy and Amanda would sing it together while she was growing up. Randy loved his visits down to Chicago to visit Amanda and her family and looked forward to anytime they got together.

In his younger years Randy did not always make the best choices, but he stressed the importance of learning from those choices. Randy excelled at everything he put his feisty mind to. Everyone was so proud of his sobriety for the last 19 years.

Randy had many interests outside of work. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping, fishing, boating, and storytelling with anyone and everyone. At home one of two things would always be on in the background, Gun Smoke or Fox News. He was a true American. His absolute favorite thing was spending time with numerous friends and family. His greatest passion though was his grandchildren, or anyone else that called him Papa. He took them on rides, showed them cattle, always supplied them with ample amounts of goodies, or enjoyed just visiting. While tubing he took special joy in toppling children (or anyone brave enough to get on the tube) while he was captaining the boat. There was only one thing bigger than his smile and his laugh and that was his heart.

Anyone who knew him, knew how generous and selfless he was. No matter who or what the situation was, he’d always be there to help in any way he could.

He and Karen started dating in 2018, but had been friends for years. Immediately their respective families knew they had both found what they were looking for. They enjoyed going on adventures through the countryside, cooking, and each other’s company. They had plans of growing old together.

Randy was admired for his brilliance, selflessness, and sincerity. His loss will be felt by everyone lucky enough to have known him. He left an incredible mark on those around and made everyone a better person. The love he had for family and friends was unprecedented and he will have a special place in our hearts always and forever. He left us with so many cherished memories. You will be incredibly missed, but your love will never die.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Julia Moe; his brothers, Ernie, Eddie, Art, and Tommy James; and his sisters, Karin, Connie, Julie Ann, and Kristy.

Randy is survived by his brother, Johny (Linda) Moe; sisters, Erma Moe, Arlene (Darrell) Krebs, Margie (Frank) Gerzina and Linda (Louis) Beckum; daughter, Amanda (Brad) Miller; his two grandchildren, Julia and Karl along with many other kids that knew him as “Papa Randy,” numerous nieces and nephews, and his girlfriend Karen Vetsch.

He was a good guy. Amanda, he always talked so proudly of you and your family and with eyes filled with so much love. He would share stories with me when he came to the bank, of his trips to see you. I am thinking one of them had to do with getting the kids a puppy? I will never forget his smile that day! He will be missed. Hugs to the family!

My heart aches with you, my head just can't wrap itself around the loss of such a wonderful man. I never knew Randy without a smile, and well wishes, or asking how you are. I was so happy when he and Karen got together, they truly belonged together, and so to her and to the families, I send my deepest, most sincere sympathies and know we all hurt with you. He touched so many lives in love and kindness. God truly has an Angel, but oh how he will be missed. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Was so sad to learn of my first cousins passing. I have not seen Randy since we were kids in North Dakota. I will always remember him as the sweetest cousin. When we go to visit my Aunt and Uncle at the the farm, Randy was always the one to make sure we were all happy and safe while riding the horse. And always had the biggest smile on his face.
My heart felt condolences to all his sisters and Brother. May God comfort you all at this most difficult time and know Randy is most definitely resting in the arms of our Lord. God Speed Cousin.

Heartsick to hear about the passing of 'one of the good guys'. Randy was my classmate and I remember a sweet, fun-loving guy who knew everyone. I hadn't seen him in years but I knew whenever I did run into him, he was always the same, sweet guy. I was happy to hear he had found a great relationship with Karen, who my heart breaks for. Love to her and all of Randy's family.

Life is so fragile as we once again find an amazing man gone way too soon!! Our family has suffered many losses and each one takes a piece of our heart with them! Randy was such a jokester back in our early farm days! He would be playing tricks one minute and helping to bandage a cut or scrape the next!! He had a genuine loving heart and the most infectious smile and his family and friends always knew that he had their back! I will always fondly remember the Thanksgiving my husband and I spent at his home with other family members a few years ago and the great time we had at the fair with Erma, Amanda and her family, our cousin Annette and I one summer!! He always made time for those he cared about!! God speed Randy…until we meet again!! Thoughts of peace to Amanda and her family, his brother and sisters and the many others who were lucky enough to be Randy’s family and friends!!!

Randy was always a kind man and friendly face. We loved seeing him on the soccer fields supporting his family, cheering on the kids. Conversations were always interesting. Adolfo and he had some common ranching ground which made the two of them immerse themselves into long conversation. We got to know him more over a long dinner at Fat Ricky’s and I very much so regret we are not able to return his generosity. I’m going to miss seeing his red hat on the sideline every time he would visit. It still makes me chuckle. While we may not see him, I’m sure he will be present on the sidelines, watching from above, cheering on his family. May he Rest In Peace. Amanda & family- our hearts ache for your loss. We are praying for strength and courage during this difficult time and hope you find solace in the memories and love Randy held for you.

Very very sorry to hear about the loss of one heck of a oil field worker, operator, consultintant, and plain great guy. I don't think anybody could work like Randy or the have the knowledge that Randy had from rigging up on a well to telling a company man what was wrong and how he was gonna fix it. One of the greatest at 30 below with a dark blue beanie and cottn gloves and he come to work.
Prayers to you and your family and for letting me know you.
