Richard Dean (Dick) Dishon was born July 11, 1952, to Dean and Cynthia (Ross) Dishon in Sidney, the second of four children. He passed June 3, 2022, in Houston, TX, surrounded by his family after a complicated surgery.
Dick grew up and attended schools in Sidney and graduated in 1970. He immediately enlisted in the Navy. While stationed in Beeville, Texas, he grew to love the state so much they later moved there to retire.
Dick married an Alexander farm girl, Victoria Bottke on April 2, 1977, and the couple this year celebrated 45 years of marriage. This union added four sons: Rusty, Mike, Jeremy and Lane and a daughter, Alyssa to the Dishon family.
Following his service in the Navy, Dick went to work at the Knife River Coal Mine in Savage, MT and was there over 20 years before moving to the MDU Power Plant in Sidney. He worked there until he retired in 2012.
Dick had the heart of a pioneer farmer and over the years planted barley, raised horses, a few cattle, sheep, and rabbits on the acreage in the Fox Creek area. We always felt he was born 150 years too late!
His fascination with trains led to travels by rail, and a complete track set up in his basement. As well as regular get togethers with his train buddies at Ribbon and Rail.
Dick was an avid supporter of every sport and activity his children participated in including, baseball, football, AAU wrestling, volleyball, and piano. He also faithfully attended numerous events of his nephews.
Dick's dream of settling in Texas after several "snowbird" seasons was realized in 2014 when he and Vikki purchased property in Bandera - home of the first leg of the legendary cattle drives of the 1880s. They happily adapted to the Texas area and quickly made many treasured new friendships. Together, Dick and Vikki spent their golden years dancing the weekends away with friends and enjoying rattlesnake shots from time to time.
Dick: husband, father, grampa, brother, uncle, and cousin: you are truly missed by us all .
Dick is survived by his wife, Vikki of Bandera, TX, sons Rusty (Bobbi) Dishon of Mandan, ND; Mike and daughter Carley of Miles City; Jeremy (Jaimie) and children, Mason, Bailey and Hadley of Sidney; Alyssa (Dillon) Urlacher and sons Jayden and Isaac of Wahpeton, ND; and Lane and daughter Grace of Glendive, MT; two sisters, Debbie Dahl of Fairview, MT and Cindy (Mark) Rosellini of Grove, OK and sisters in law Donna Dishon of Mesquite, AZ; Melanie Swearingen of Glendive, MT; Stacy (Larry) Koland of Hudson, WI, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
