Delores Grimson
May 29, 1924 - January 4, 2022

Residence: Williston, North Dakota

Delores Grimson, 97, of Williston, ND passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home in Williston, ND.

Delores Eleanor Grimson was born on May 29, 1924 on the family farm in New Home Township to Thea (Swenson) and Arthur Hill. She attended school in one room country schools approximately 14 miles north of Ray, North Dakota and was baptized and confirmed at Rainbow Valley Lutheran Church.

On May 29, 1942 Delores was united in marriage to Leland Berg Grimson in Sidney, Montana. The couple made their home north of Ray as proud farmers. She kept a spotless house; the floors were so polished you could skate on them. But, Delores’s kitchen was where she made the magic happen. She made the most wonderful Norwegian sweets not to mention her sugar cookies that would melt in your mouth.

In her free time, Delores loved playing cards, spending time with friends and attending sporting events. Both Leland and Delores were proud Ray Jays and when they moved to Williston, they were cheering on the Coyotes. Throughout their lives, the biggest cheers were for their grandchildren, Michelle and Brent.

Delores would say her best times were spent with family -- Ron, Pat, Michelle and Brent…then the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren too.

Delores (and Leland) moved to Williston in 1983, trying the snowbird scene once and realized happiness started and ended in Williston (snow or no snow). On May 29, 2012 Leland and Delores celebrated their 70th anniversary. Recognizing their devotion to family and community, the Governor of North Dakota sent them a letter of congratulations.

Shortly thereafter, Leland passed away (January 2013). Delores moved to the Arbor House and later to Bethel which become her final home. She never forgot the taste of lutefisk and enjoyed the lunch days when First Lutheran would deliver to Bethel.

Delores was the last survivor of the original Hill generation. She is survived by their son, Ron (Pat); grandchildren, Michelle (Stephen) Padgett and Brent (Jessica) Grimson; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Ross, Ella Padgett and Beau Padgett; and great-great-grandchildren, Sophia and Lilly Ann.

Delores is preceded in death by Leland; two sons an infant son and Dean (1964); her parents; siblings an infant brother and sister, Ruby, Harley, Wally, Kermit, Florence, Don and Alvin.
