Helen Heringer
November 24, 1927 - March 28, 2021

Place of Birth: Rural Crane, MT
Residence: Sidney, MT
Age: 93

Helen Knopp Heringer was born to Julian and May Knopp on Thanksgiving Day in her childhood home near Crane, Montana on Nov. 24, 1927. She attended school in Crane as a child and finished off her final year of education at Sidney High in 1944. She was gifted with impressive musical talents and a servanthood spirit from a young age. At 9 years old, she invited the Lord Jesus Christ to be her Savior and Lord and was baptized. While in high school she relished working as a radio announcer/disk jockey for KGCX radio. She later resigned from that to teach at Newlon school near Crane.
She married her sweetheart Paul Heringer on Nov. 23, 1945 in Wibaux. The couple took up farming south of Crane and ranching later at the Dunc Narum ranch east of Lambert. In Oct. 1953 they transitioned to the retail grocery business. They remodeled a general mercantile store into their home and post office quarters. Helen served as a postmaster for 34 years until her retirement.
She was a loving wife for 64 years, mother of 5, grandmother/great-grandmother of 64, and sister in Christ to everyone in her community. She was crafty, creative, loved a good pun, and could transpose music on the fly. She was a wonderful story teller, great encourager, and a prayer warrior. She welcomed many into her home for tasty food and fellowship and delighted in growing fresh veggies and flowers in her beautiful garden. She was a dedicated Lambert Lions fan and she received the Montana High School Association’s Super Fan Award in 2005 for her outstanding support of school activities.
In July of 2005 Paul and Helen moved to Sidney, MT. She remained very active and loved playing piano at Extended Care and at various local churches. She enjoyed reading, journaling, scrapbooking, writing poetry and watching God paint the sky at sunset out her window. She was passionate about sharing Jesus’ Love and supported Christian charities. She wrote inspiring letters/cards to her friends and family.
Helen went to be with the Lord March 28, 2021 at home surrounded by family that loved her. Her celebration of life will be held at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Lambert on April 2, 2021.
Helen is survived by: Daughters: Rennie (Mike) Sharp, New London, MN; Sunetta (Tim) Ellwein, Billings, MT; Sons: Ronne (Sandra) Heringer, Glasgow, MT; Sheldon (Anita) Heringer, Lambert, MT; Scott (Christy) Heringer, Nepal and numerous grandchildren/great-grandchildren.

Sheldon, Sunetta and families, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom always had a smile on her face and I loved to hear her play whenever I was lucky enough to be present. Hold your memories close to your heart and share the stories, always. Prayers to you all.

I am deeply saddened that Helen has left us and grown her angel wings. Years ago, Helen was my "storm mother" as she had signed up to take my brother Michael and I when Lambert declared the buses would not run. It was so fun being a "town kid" and getting to walk to school. Not only that but to be INSIDE the mail room! How great was that! Helen always made us feel welcome and there were a few winters in 1978 and 1979 that we were at the Heringers for valentines day and Helen made sure that we had supplies to have things to exchange with our class. Her piano playing skills are second to none and she inspired me to try to work harder...alas some of us are musically gifted as she was and well...some of us aren't (me!). My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. Thank you for sharing your mother with me. I was never homesick when I stayed at your house. She made us feel welcome and safe.

Sending our love to the Herringer family. We loved Helen she was such a blessing to us starting when she was our youth choir director. Helen was such a good Christian influence on our lives. She told us she prayed that Ted and I would get together and
played the organ for our wedding.
Years later she moved to Sidney and we so enjoyed her gift of piano playing. Heaven is sweeter with Helen there. She will be missed on earth but someday we will join her in the heavenly choir save a spot for us Helen.

Helen’s parents were friends of my grandparents (Mary and Myron Pickering) My parents (David and Nellie Pickering) were friends of Paul and Helen. My Dad loved to play checkers with Paul. Community picnics were held at my grandparents’ place one mile south of Crane. I have wonderful memories... especially of the 4th of July celebrations. Helen was a very special and gifted person. She faithfully visited my mother during the 3+ years she was in the nursing home and read the Bible to her. Helen was a blessing. I am looking forward to seeing her again..in Heaven!
