Lowell J. Vedaa, 78, of Stanley, ND passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Mountrail County Hospital in Stanley, ND.

Lowell Jack Vedaa, third oldest of six children, was born February 14, 1942 in Minot to Earling and Jordis (Johnson) Vedaa. He was raised on farm northeast of Stanley where he learned the importance of hard work and determination. He attended a country school and later attended school in Stanley. Lowell was a truck driver for many years and enjoyed visiting about all the places and people he met. He always said you are only a stranger until you said Hi. In 1989, Lowell purchased the family farm and farmed for a number of years.

Lowell married Judy Erie in August of 1994 during a trip to Las Vegas. Lowell inherited three children in this marriage and quickly became a father figure to them. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren. He was so proud of them and they meant the world to him. Lowell and Judy lived on the farm until moving to Stanley in 2003.

Lowell was an active member of the lion’s club including president for a number of years. He served on the church counsel of American Lutheran Church, and was a strong supporter of the Teamster’s union during his over the road trucking career.

Lowell developed a niche for mechanical work including small and large engines. When he retired, he enjoyed spending time outside working in the yard, keeping busy with woodworking projects, and playing cards with his grandchildren. Lowell enjoyed visiting over endless cups of coffee with family and friends. Most of all, he enjoyed the evening gator rides in the side by side with Judy.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Judy of 26 years; daughter Julie Erie of Stanley; sons Jared (Brenda) Erie of Dickinson, Jerome (Tiffany) of Minot; grandchildren Jaxon Erie, Hannah Erie, Jada Erie, Jersey Erie; step grandchildren Sarah Adams, Luke Adams, Jason Adams; Brothers Archie (Vangie) Vedaa, Mel Vedaa; sister Judy (Walter) Arneson; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earling and Jordis Vedaa; brothers, Earling LeRoy Vedaa, Gene Sr Vedaa; Sister In-laws, Joan Vedaa, Carol Vedaa, Sharalyn Vedaa; Niece, Trisha Vedaa: Nephew, Gene Jr. Vedaa.

Judy, Julie, Jerad and Jerome, I am sorry to hear of Lowell's passing. I used to enjoy his smart assed grin and humor back in my Quik Stop days. You could tell just by watching and listening to him, the amazing amount of pride and love he had for you all. You are in our thoughts and we send our sincere sympathy to you all as you celebrate his life.
