John D. Thompson, 50, of Powers Lake, ND, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at his residence in Powers Lake, ND.
John was born to Elwood and Diana Thompson in Powers Lake, North Dakota on January 23, 1970. As a child John loved to help around the house and spend time with his siblings. He attended school in Tioga and graduated from Tioga in 1988.
As he spent two years after school trying to decide where life would take him, he joined the United States Navy in 1990 to be able to travel and serve his country which he so loved. While serving in the Navy John was assigned as an Electrical Technician and kept up on these skills even after he was medically discharged after an accident. He was always ready and willing to help family or friends with any electrical repair work.
When John was discharged from the Navy in 1992 he moved to Oregon to live with his sisters and enjoy his nieces and nephews before heading back home to North Dakota. Once back in Powers Lake John could always be found enjoying a round of golf or going to the casinos for a night out with his best friends. He worked for Clean Freaks making sure that his pride showed through his work as he cleaned the EOG Building in Stanley. John was a man who didn’t need to be around lots of people and just enjoyed keeping to himself and enjoying life.
John is survived by his Mother Diana Thompson; sisters, Carrie Thompson, Betty Floyd, Angie (Cameron) Holte; brother Ben (Lisa) Thompson; nephews, Brady Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Connor Holte, Mattheau Thompson; and niece Bailey Thompson.
John is preceded in death by his father Elwood Thompson; grandparents, Vernon and Wanda Nissen, Ben and Annie Thompson; and uncle Benny Thompson.
