Glenn R Arrison
August 26, 1923 - August 16, 2020

Place of Birth: Ross, North Dakota
Residence: Fargo, North Dakota
Age: 96

Glenn Arrison, 96, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Ross, ND, passed away on August 16, 2020 at New Perspective Senior Living in West Fargo, ND.

Glenn Richard Arrison was born August 28, 1923 on his parent’s farm outside of Ross, ND to John and Roxeanne Arrison. Roxeanne’s family came over from England and homesteaded outside of Ross. John, his father and mother, William and Anastatia, moved from Seymore, Iowa in a covered wagon also to homestead.

Glenn attended country school in Manitou, ND through the 11th grade. He rode his bike and horse to Ross, ND to complete his senior year.

He farmed with his father, until his brother, Clair and father’s death in a terrible winter storm, in February 1948. Sometime following their death, Glenn took over his parent’s farm.

He met Doris Enget from Powers Lake, ND. They were united in marriage on August 18, 1950 at the Baptist Church in Powers Lake, ND.

Glenn owned and flew his own airplane. Sometime in late 1947 early 1950 he helped erect the Four Bears Bridge near Sanish. He would fly back and forth to his job site, often giving onlookers a ride. He was a Boy Scout leader and also enjoyed music and played the violin. He later played the guitar and sang at many funerals. He belonged to the Mountrail Men’s Choir and performed for Robert Kennedy when he visited Minot which Glenn sang a solo in one of the music selections.

Glenn’s mother, sisters and brothers had moved to Spokane and California. However, Glenn’s wife, Doris also came from a large family, so Sundays and holidays were spent with her parents, sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews in Powers Lake. Many hours were spent attending church, playing Rook, horseshoe, watching football and visiting.

Glenn, Doris and their family enjoyed camping, trail rides and traveling. Glenn and Doris traveled to all but one US State. They attended two world fairs, one in Montreal and the other in Seattle.

Later in life, Glenn and Doris took up dancing and liked riding motorcycle into their 70’s, having made at least one trip to Sturgis, SD.

Glenn loved to sing and play guitar around the campfire with friends and relatives. He enjoyed welding and creating. He was a handy man and built onto the family home which was originally built by his father.

Glenn was a quiet man but a thinker. The planets, stars, weather and nature intrigued him. He was inclined to analyze things rather than to rely on faith and trust. This perhaps was the reason he became a believer later in life.

He loved his wife and family and grew to treasure the country life, his farm and animals. Bringing home abandoned animals and with the help of his daughter, they would feed and nurse them back to independence. He loved his many dogs and a special Morgan horse named Yankee. Glenn was an avid cheerleader at his son’s wrestling meets. Well…..maybe it was less cheering and more instructing, but clearly he was engaged.

Glenn and Doris moved off the family farm in 2004 to be closer to their 2 children, Rob and Paulette. He loved Rob’s visits, outings and attending his grandkids activities and celebrating special holidays and birthdays with family.

Glenn is survived by his daughter, Paulette Arrison of Fargo, ND; son, Jay Arrison of Santa Clara, CA; grand children, Cole, Asha, Joshua and Sandra; great-grand children, Arrison, Adler and Crosby.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Clair, Benjamin, Justin; sisters, Grace, Evangeline, Wave; sons, Robyn and Marshall “Lance”.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of your father. He was one of the last of the men from our childhood neighborhood to pass. He lived a long and wonderful life, and his legacy will continue through the stories and memories we share. I can only imagine the reunion our parents will have. Can’t you just imagine all the wonderful stories.
