Marie was born at home near Poplar, MT, on November 9, 1925 to John and Minnie Unger. She grew up on the family farm in Poplar until the farm was sold and a new farm was purchased in Savage, Mt. Marie resided here until she met and married Lars Leivestad on April 20, 1943. Lars and Marie farmed in Savage until moving to Billings in 1966.
Marie worked at the hospital in Billings until she retired. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, crocheting, baking and having friends over for coffee and Bible studies. Lars and Marie enjoyed fishing going on Sunday drives, and helped start the Yellowstone Lutheran Brethren Church in Billings.
In 2008, she moved to Cartwright, ND and resided with Butch and Julia Kuykendall. In 2014, Marie moved to the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City, where she was an avid bingo player, faithfully attended chapel and would visit with anyone who stopped by.
Marie Leivestad, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Good Shepherd Home in Watford City.
Survivors include 4 children, Julia Kuykendall (Butch) of Cartwright, Helen Conradsen of Glendive, Jerry Leivestad (Cindy) of Gold Canyon, AZ, Loraine Sabol of Glendive, 16 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren and a sister Rosalia Skarr of Helena.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lars Leivestad, son Elvin in 1973, a granddaughter Cheryl Conradsen, her parents: John and Minnie Unger, 4 siblings: Lawrence, Reynold, Edward, and Martha Kroemer.
Marie’s faith in God was very important to her and she lived her life faithfully knowing that one day she would join her loved ones and heavenly Father in Heaven.
