Elaine Beth (Grev) Sinness was born July 13, 1950, in Williston, ND to Henry and Signe (Erlandsen) Grev of Zahl, ND. Elaine was raised on the farm outside of Zahl with her two brothers, Jerry and Stan. After high school she moved off the farm to the big city of Rapid City, SD and received her A.A. in Stewardess and Business. She was living life to the fullest moving from Rapid City to Kansas to Nebraska and then to Minnesota working as a secretary. She may not have become a stewardess, but she did travel.
Elaine was united in marriage to the love of her life, Steven Sinness on October 18, 1975. They had two wonderful children, Stephanie and Loye, who they raised in Williston, ND. Elaine worked for the City of Williston as a City Planner for nearly 25 years, retiring in 2013. Elaine enjoyed being a mother and loved being a grandmother even more. Elaine went to every sports game and band concert performed by her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the cabin, boating, gardening, tai chi, church activities and volunteered her time to help others.
Elaine had a wonderful spirit and her smile lit up a room. She was kind and had a presence full of grace and courage. Her laugh was contagious, accompanied with a great sense of humor. She was the most beautiful woman inside and out, her talents ranged from being active in her church to working with the League of Cities. Elaine’s love for God was contagious; she lived her life for him.
Elaine passed away at the young age of 68 on Monday June, 24th at 3:45 pm. After 69 days in the hospital struggling to recover from open heart surgery, her body was overwhelmed with incurable infections. Surrounded by her family, she passed away peacefully at St. Alexius in Bismarck.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 43 years, Steven of Williston/Mandan, ND; daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Petersen; two favorite grandchildren, Sven and Evie Blomseth of Bismarck, ND; favorite son, Loye Sinness of Zahl, ND; brothers, Jerry (Barb) Grev and Stan (Nina) Grev of Williston, ND; her nieces and nephews; and pets, Bentley, Rudy, Spook and Speedo of Bismarck/Mandan, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Signe Grev; aunts and uncles; brother- in-law, Greg Sinness.
