Gilman Duane Anderson
January 30, 1945 - April 15, 2019

Place of Birth: Devils Lake, ND
Residence: Rural Alexander, ND
Age: 74

Gilman Anderson, 74, of rural Alexander, ND, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Monday morning, April 15, 2019 at his rural Alexander residence.

Gilman Duane Anderson was born January 30, 1945 to Alvin and Cora (Christensen) Anderson in Devils Lake, ND. He has one brother; Conrad, and five sisters; Barbara, Karen, Lily, Ethel and Cindy.

Gilman enlisted in the Army in 1968. He was in Vietnam from January 1968 until March 1969. He was Honorably discharged in 1973.

Gilman married Peggy Henderson on April 21, 1973. They have four children Penni, Clint, Stephanie and Craig.

Gilman worked for various farmers around the Devils Lake area. Then he went to work for Harringtons car dealership as a mechanic for 18 years before moving to Horace, ND for short time. In 1980 they loaded everything up in a U-haul and moved the family to Alexander, ND. Stephanie was 3 years old and had just learned to whistle. She had to ride with Dad and he said she talked and whistled the whole way there. He said it was the longest ride ever and he didn’t think we were ever going to get there. Gilman went to work for the Nygaard Farm in 1980 where he resided until the time of his death.

Gilman loved to go pheasant hunting. He loved to go fishing – especially if he could take one of his Grandsons with him. He loved harvest and running the leg system and elevators. You could always find him working on cars or a project in the shop. He put lots of miles on his vehicles going to farm shows to check out tractors or look for toy tractors and farm items to collect. He had quite the collection of fishing rods and guns (too many to Mom’s dismay), as well as a couple closets full of caps that he was sure he couldn’t live without! When he was no longer farming you could be sure to find him out driving the country roads checking on all the neighbors fields, pulling over along the way to visit one neighbor or another. The pickup probably had auto pilot so all he had to do was put it in drive and go!

Gilman is survived by his wife, Peggy (Henderson); daughters, Penni (Jim) Lewis of Squaw Gap, Stephanie (Shane) Pappa of Stanley; Sons, Clint (Melinda) of New Rockford, Craig of Alexander. Grandchildren, Laci, Tia, Cedar, Chisum Lewis, Tyson, Eli and Clay Pappa. His brother Conrad and Barb (Waite Park, MN), Sisters, Barbara Janzen (Devils Lake), Karen Setter (Horace), Lily and Todd Trangsrud (Devils Lake), Ethel Anderson (Wahpeton), Cindy Rham (Wahpeton) and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Cora, infant sister, Kim; Mother and Father-in-law Garvin and Dorothy Henderson. Brothers in Law, Leo Setter, David Rham, Al Janzen, Everett Henderson
and Peter Schuler.
