Kari Ann (Vargo) Engstrom was born February 23, 1985 in Mona Shores, MI to Paul Vargo and Beth Hoffer. Kari grew up there with her brother Paul and sister Alyssa. She graduated from Mona Shores High School and married her high school sweetheart, Brent Engstrom, on the channel of Lake Michigan on May 24, 2008. They moved to Wolf Lake, MI where they had one son, Bryce, who made their family complete. Brent went to work in the oil patch and Kari and Bryce followed, moving to Watford City in 2012.
She enjoyed managing apartments at Hunters Run and was pretty particular about how things should be done. Kari was active in the community and enjoyed having a bunch of kids at their house when she wasn’t visiting with people. She especially liked spending time with and talking to her sister, at least 10 times a day. She loved antiquing and shopping garage sales, and loved to help others. Kari loved her time with the family, and fondly remembered their trips to Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin as well as Michigan Adventures. Kari was fun, bubbly and loud. She loved music, dancing, chatting with people and had a wonderful laugh.
She passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the McKenzie County Hospital.
She is survived by: her husband, Brent and son, Bryce Engstrom; mom, Beth (Tom) Hoffer; brother, Paul Vargo III; sister, Alyssa Vargo (Kyle Ossenfort); nephew, Gaige; and grandmother Arlene Morford. She will be greatly missed.
Kari was preceded in death by her father, Paul Vargo Jr., grandparents Paul and Arthea Vargo, and grandfather Arnold Vaandering.
