Carol L. Johnson, 78, of Arnegard, ND passed away peacefully with her family by her side June 28, 2018 at Trinity Healthcare of Minot, after a long battle from complications of heart disease. She will be deeply missed.

Carol was born January 1, 1940, the daughter of Leonard and Dagny (Vallevik) Gudmunsen. She attend school in Arnegard and Watford City her freshman year, returning to Arnegard to graduate in 1958. Upon graduating, Carol and Dennis were united in marriage on June 15, 1958, celebrating 60 years of marriage on June 15, 2018 with their entire family. Together they have two children, Allen and Barbara. Carol was a very talented person in so many ways. Among her hobbies were sewing pillows with her great granddaughters, quilting, hardanger, Norwegian rosemaling, gardening, baking and following her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to any and every event they had. She loved to play cards, dice, and numerous games with all her kids, her favorite being “nasty canasty”. Dennis and Carol made their yearly week long trip to Minot to enjoy the festivities at the Norsk Hostfest. Carol loved to cook and bake. Teaching her daughter, granddaughters, and great granddaughters how to make her special recipes brought her much joy. Meatballs, lefsa, Mac and cheese (of which the great grandkids will eat no other), KrumKake, Rommegrot, potato dumplings and new peas and potatoes were some of her favorites. Her daughter is beyond blessed to have the best teacher to carry on her traditions. Carol was an active member of Zoar Lutheran Church and Wilmington Lutheran Church.

Carol is survived by her husband, Dennis; one son, Allen Johnson; one daughter, Barbara Samuelson and husband Randy; brothers, Donald and wife Ann Gudmunsen, Robert and wife Faye Gudmunsen; sister-in-law, Gladys Gudmunsen; grandchildren, Brian Samuelson, Miranda Samuelson and fiancé Eddy Figaro, Nicole Filkowski and husband Mike; great grandchildren, Alex Holtzer, Melina Benitez, Ethan and Jordan Samuelson, Mekhi and Mylei Samuelson, Kaylee, Trapper and Huntley Filkowski and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James(Jim) and sister-in-law, Lowaine.

Though the music comes to a pause, the memories of the melodies carry on. Sorry I saw this too late to attend the funeral. I have such fond memories of the music of the "Swinging Grandmas".
