Arlo D. Hendrickson
January 5, 1940 - December 19, 2017

Residence: Williston, North Dakota

Arlo D. Hendrickson , 77, of Williston, ND, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 surrounded by his family at Mercy Medical Center in Williston, ND. Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Williston is assisting the family.

Arlo was born in Plentywood, Montana, to Harris and Elizabeth (Hansen) Hendrickson on January 5, 1940. He was baptized on January 2, 1942, at the Volmer Lutheran Church of Dagmar, Montana. Arlo attended Franklin School in Dagmar until 4th grade, the Medicine Lake Schools (MT) through 8th grade, and then Williston High School, where he graduated in 1957.

He married Meredith (Merri Jo) Holland at Grace Lutheran Church in Wildrose on September 23, 1962. To this union were born two children, Julie Rae and Michael Dale.

Arlo joined the National Guard in 1959 and went on active duty during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1965. After returning from duty, he worked at the S & Q Hardware Store before purchasing Texaco Station in 1963, and operating it as Arlo’s Inc. for the next 30 years.

In 1992, he embarked on a new career with Anderson Real Estate, eventually purchasing the business in 2001 and being named Williston Realtor of the Year in 2003. He retired from the real estate business in 2004.

No matter where his business interests were focused at the moment, Arlo always enjoyed helping his brothers-in-law on the family farm near Wildrose, and did so for over 40 years. He was also a loyal Williston State College Teton fan, and was inducted into the Teton Boosters Hall of Fame. He enjoyed farming, fishing, golfing, having coffee with friends, attending sporting events, and watching sports on television. He took special enjoyment from time spent with his children and grandchildren, and from attending their sporting events and activities.

Arlo was a member of Our Redeemers Lutheran Church, and served two terms as a Trustee on the church council. He was often the cook for church functions, especially the annual Meatball Supper. He was active in the broader Williston community as well, serving on the Board of Directors for the Williston Chamber in 1973, as a member of the Board of Directors for the State Gasoline Dealers Association, a member of the Williston Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, and the Williston Trapshooting Association. He belonged to the Williston Elk’s Club, The Loyal Order of the Moose, and the United Commercial Travelers of America.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Merri Jo, his daughter Julie (John J.) Kresl of Paradise Valley, AZ, and his son Michael (Kimberly) Hendrickson of Fargo, ND. Arlo leaves six grandchildren: Alexis Kresl, Los Angeles, CA; Logan Kresl, Paradise Valley, AZ; Colten Kresl, Carson, CA; H Hendrickson, Tucson, AZ; Hunter Hendrickson, Tempe, AZ; and Tre Hendrickson, Fargo, ND. He is also survived by his sisters Marilyn (Robert) Austreim of Williston and Debra (Ward) Sandstrom of Mandan; brothers Harold (Patti) Hendrickson of Jefferson, GA, and Donald (Betty) Hendrickson of Big Fork, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Elizabeth Hendrickson, his brother Tim Hendrickson, and his in-laws, John and Marguerite Holland.

Arlo’s sense of humor and unerring kindness will be what is remembered most by his family and many friends.

So sorry to hear about Arlo. No more pain and suffering. I have so many great memories of Arlo at the gas station. I remember times the kids in the block and I would stop by the gas station and he would put air in our bike tires. Stop with what he was doing and talk with us. Even though my Dads station was across street . And the times my Mom would give me .75 cents to go to Arlos and get her a pack of cigarettes from the vending machine.
Prayers to all of you and you will be in our prayers.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Arlos family during this sad time. May now he R.I.P. fond memories of Arlos Sinclair a full service station where they came out to fill your tank for you and washed the windows. Also Arlo and his buddies on those cool Artic cat snow machines. If remember correctly 7or 8 of them came across the fields one Sunday afternoon coming bye chucks and on over to Dicks. We lived on farm then and they all rode over to the farm. Arlos and Howard’s machines had chrome exhaust pipes off each side of the machine. Boy did those babies purr!! It was quit the site. One I will never forget. It started my inthusasme for snowmobiles. God bless you Arlo and your family. A very fine man.

So sorry for your loss. It seems all of the Williston community has suffered a great loss. I hope you will find comfort in the words of Jesus Christ at John chapter 5 and verses 28-29: "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life..." visit JW.org for more Biblical comfort.
