Donald Carr, age 79 of Grenora, ND, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius Health Hospital in Williston, ND.
His funeral arrangements are with Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Williston, ND.
Don was born in New Hradic, ND on April 2, 1938 to Wilbur and Albina Carr. He attended grade school at Indian Hill School and Williston High School. In 1955 he joined the US Navy and served 4 years including time aboard the USS Lexington and the USS Shangri-La.
In 1959 Don married Rosella Guderjahn at Concordia Lutheran Church in Williston and that same year, began working for Northern Tank Line in Tioga, ND as a mechanic and truck driver. The couple moved to Grenora in 1961 for what was supposed to be a short-term job assignment and ended up making a home there for 56 years. Don worked for Northern Tank Lines for 30 years, then drove for Horizon Resources Prairie States Elevator until retiring in 2005.
Don enjoyed trap shooting, water skiing and was an avid hunter (and prairie-dog slayer). He also enjoyed reading, playing cards and sharing stories with friends old and new. He was a member of the Grenora Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, taught Hunters Safety courses in the community and was a member of the Alvin T. Larson American Legion Post 116 in Grenora.
Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosella; sons David of Hazen, ND; Richard of Williston, ND; Douglas and his wife Judith (Volkamer) of Surrey, ND; and Randal and his wife Bethany (Ferguson) and sons Bromley and Ethan of Valley City, ND; daughters Donna of Kenilworth, NJ and Raychele Payne of Minneapolis, MN and her daughters Madison Karaba of Minot, ND and Mercedes Karaba of Minneapolis, MN; brothers John of Sandtown, DE; Frank of Shreveport, LA; sisters Clara (Hugh) Hunton of Keithville, LA; Arlys Tuttle of Puyallup, WA; Darlene of Gresham, OR; and Mary (Dale) Hunt of Aberdeen, SD along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Albina and daughter-in-law Elizabeth "Lisa" Carr.
