Place of Birth: Sidney, Montana
Residence: Sidney, Montana
Age: 61

Richard “Dick” Allen Dore was born the fourth of five children of Kenneth “Scoop” and Doris (Hinman) Dore on September 1, 1955 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Sidney, MT. He was raised on the family farm about 12 miles NW of Sidney until the age of 15 when they then moved to the current residence after the farm was sold. He attended 1st grade at Hay Creek School half a mile west of home; then when the schools combined he went the next 7 years to Brorson School. Dick attended high school in Sidney and graduated with the class of 1973. He went off to basic training at Ft. Dix, NJ shortly after graduating. He was a member of the Sidney National Guard for almost 30 years. Other than annual training and monthly drills he was called up to fight fires in Montana, served as a guard at the prison in Deer Lodge and at Eastmont Human Services Center in Glendive when the Guard was needed to cover. Dick attended Dawson Community College for several quarters.
During the Oil Boom of the 80’s, Dick worked in the oilfield before going to work for Burlington Northern Railroad. Dick worked with several local farmers including: John Almond, Rusty Folkvord, Jerry and Jason Rau and the Nagels. He was currently working at Sidney Sugars.
Dick had a deep Christian faith and attended the local Alliance Churches. He was very generous with his time and finances. He was known as “Uncle Mom” to his younger sister’s 4 children when they stayed with him for several months. He still gets Mother’s Day Cards and greetings from them. He enjoyed family gatherings throughout the United States. Dick was married and divorced twice as he tried to do the right thing and help each of them. He enjoyed traveling and took several road trips with his cousin Jack and high school friends Kirk “Butch” and Joel. Dick helped his sister Alida move home twice; once from Boston and later from Seattle. While working as flumer on the wet hopper at the local sugar factory, he enjoyed cooking various things to share with his co-workers and truck drivers. Dick was known to cook steaks, burgers, lobster tails and on Christmas Eve he made oyster stew. He loved to share whatever he had. Dick shared his big hugs and special smiles. He also loved to go dancing.

I knew Richard a long time. Went to College the same time as he did. Played lots of Pinochle and even skipped classes to finish a hand. He would call or stop in to visit from time to time. Always with a hug and a big smile no matter where we were. I never heard a bad thing about Richard, only how friendly and caring he was to everyone. He will be missed by so many. I know he goes to a better place with no pain and sickness where he can look down and smile at all his friends and family. My sympathy to all his family.
