Miles Albert Nelson,62,of Williston, passed away at his residence December 26,2016. Services are with Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home - Williston

Miles A. Nelson was born in Lamar, Colorado, the son of Robert and Ruby (Wegner) Nelson on January 8, 1954. He attended many different schools in many states because of his father’s employment. He graduated from Williston High School in 1972. He enlisted in the Navy that fall, and served five years during the Vietnam conflict. He later attended UND in Grand Forks where he graduated in 1987 and was employed by the U.N.D. Police Force and served on its Drug Task Force. Due to disabilities, he has been retired for many years.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Miles married Cheryl Pederson in July of 1982. To this union, two children were born. The marriage later ended in divorce.

He was an avid sports fan, loyal to the Vikings, Twins and UND Fighting Sioux Hockey.

Miles is survived by his children Zack of Williston, North Dakota and Sara (Joe LaFlamme and their daughter Raenee) of Billings, Montana. Three brothers, Larry (Edwina) of Winlock, Washington, Craig (Robin), Warren (Jan), and his mother Ruby, all of Williston, North Dakota. Three nieces, Shandy (Andy and their children Kayleigh, Ethan and Khloe), McKayla, and Amanda.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert L., a nephew R.L., and all four of his grandparents.

So sorry to here of Miles departure. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you. He was a good man. Always treated me with respect and love. I remember when I first met him back in the late 70's such a happy, smiling, laughing guy. He will be missed.

Ruby, Craig, Warren and family. Such a shock to hear about Miles. I will never forget the great times we had together. His laugh was so infectious you could never stay mad at him for long. I will never forget him and his heart of gold.
