It Is Our Privilege And Purpose To Serve You
Reuben Theodore Hundtofte
May 8, 1930 - October 11, 2016

Place of Birth: Sidney, Montana
Residence: Sidney, MT
Age: 86

Reuben was born on May 8, 1930 in Sidney, Montana to Ted and Esther (Hansen) Hundtofte. He was the oldest of nine children, including Leo, Ardis, Palmer, Virgil, Verner, Joann, Anna, and Audrey. Reuben lived his first seven years in the Brorson area. The family then moved to Fairfield, Montana, returning to Sidney in 1947. He hired out to various farmers until he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1953. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Irene Evenson. They married on May 29, 1954 at Pella Lutheran Church and recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Reuben and Irene were blessed with four children. Reuben worked 42 years for the Lower Yellowstone Irrigation Project, delivering water to area farmers.

Reuben enjoyed taking his children to swim meets and driving the team buses for the Sidney Eagles. His interests included history, travel, and the Minnesota Twins. One of Reuben’s favorite trips was when the family went to Disneyland in 1970 and visited many relatives along the way. Traveling to Scotland, Australia, and a mission trip to South Africa were also memorable trips.

Reuben died peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Sidney Health Center Extended Care. Reuben’s faith remained strong as his health declined and he looked forward to eternal life.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, and four children: Rachel (David) Bergsagel, Bismarck, North Dakota; Ronald (Patty) Hundtofte, Centennial, Colorado; Ruth Hundtofte, Seattle, Washington; and Rex (Pam) Hundtofte, Allen, Texas.

Grandchildren include: Casey (Robin) Bergsagel, Sara Bergsagel, Sasha (Nathan) Dykema; Jana (Sergio) Montiel, Brian Hundtofte, John Hundtofte, Annika Hundtofte, and Greta Hundtofte.

Great grandchildren include: Jack Montiel, Dane Montiel, Leo Montiel, and Jonas Bergsagel.

Reuben is also survived by his eight siblings, and many nieces and nephews.

Reuben was preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to thank the staff of SHC Extended Care for the excellent care they gave Reuben during his stay there.

Memorials may be made to Pella Lutheran Church or the Foundation for Community Care.

Irene, and all of Reuben's family,

It's been 30 years since I lived in Sidney, but remember how kind Reuben was and always stopped to visit when we'd run into each other.

I know you will miss him very much. May your memories bring you comfort. With sympathy, and prayers,
