LeRoy Clarence Larsen passed away peacefully with his family close by at Roosevelt Memorial Hospital. He fought valiantly against cancer several times until he was called home on September 6, 2016.
LeRoy was born September 4, 1930 in Culbertson, MT to Willie and Isabella Elvina Fryhling Larsen and was raised on the family farm. He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1949.
LeRoy started the Larsen Lumber business in 1952 with his father Willie and was later joined by his brothers Bob and Arlie in the family business. Later his son, Ron joined him in the business and they worked side by side for many years.
LeRoy married Betty M. McGinnis on October 29, 1954 at the Assembly of God Church in Culbertson, MT and he shared 62 years with the love of his life.
LeRoy served in the National Guard for 22 years and retired August 28, 1989. He shared his love for hunting by teaching hunter safety to area youth for 20 years. He also served as a cub scout leader during his sons' early years and was a major contributor to the pinewood derby track. LeRoy was a devout Christian and was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church where he served in many officer positions.
LeRoy enjoyed the great outdoors. He spent many years hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. He traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada numerous times seeking the prized catch or trophy. In his later years, LeRoy loved to hunt for Diamond Willows and transformed them into beautifully handcrafted canes, walking sticks and foot stools. LeRoy also enjoyed planning his next craft to create for the Ebenezer Annual Fall Bazaar where they would be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
LeRoy was the number one fan to all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at their various sporting events where he rarely missed a game. He continued to support the Cowboys and Cowgirls at their games up to last year.
LeRoy loved to garden and always grew an abundance of produce to share with family and friends. He also enjoyed his coffee time and hunting/fishing trips from which he established lifelong friendships.
LeRoy had a strong love and commitment to his family and to his faith. He cherished each and every one. He is survived by his wife Betty Larsen; sons Ronald Larsen (Dianne), Dennis Larsen (Alice), daughters Linda Labatte (Lynn) and DeAnne Weeks (Mike); eleven grandkids LeeAnne (J), Lindsey (Michael), Lacey (Tyler), Tricia (Michael), Kelsey (Jeff), Abby, Katie (Ben), Lane, Karli, Alex, Shelby; fifteen great grandkids; brothers Glen, Eugene (Lila), Robert and sisters Della Wix (Fred) and Gloria Ralston (Bob) and numerous nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Pearl, and Dorothy, and his brothers Reuben and Arlie.
