Hazel Irene Jacobson
February 4, 1921 - September 4, 2016

Place of Birth: Wilbur Township, McKenzie County, ND
Residence: Williston, ND
Age: 95

Hazel Jacobson, 95, of Williston, ND, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston. Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Williston is assisting the family.

Hazel was born in 1921 to Carl and Mattie (Bergenhaugen) Groseth in Wilbur Township, McKenzie County, North Dakota. They later moved to the Trenton area where she attended school through the 8th grade. Following school, she worked at cooking and cleaning for families during the winter months and helping at her parents’ farm in the summer months. She also worked at the local bottling company and recalled putting the caps on many a Coke and 7-Up bottle.

She married Orrin Jacobson on September 25, 1946, and they began farming in the Trenton area and raising their 7 children. In 1958 they moved to Ellendale, ND, and farmed and Hazel was kept busy with helping Orrin on the farm, the 7 children, and growing a large garden every year. For a time she even worked at a local nursing home.

They sold the farm and in 1967 moved to Martin, ND, and operated a bar. Orrin passed away in 1968 and she continued to operate the bar until the last 5 children graduated from high school at which time she returned to Williston. Her next years were spent in Williston as she assisted in the care of her dad until he passed, working at Woolworths, and cleaning homes. Her retirement was spent assisting her disabled daughter Lois until her passing last year.

She was predeceased by her husband, Orrin Jacobson; her brother, Miles Groseth; her sisters Ruby Hagadone, Esther Jacobson and Ione Olson; a son, Noel Jacobson; and daughter, Lois Jacobson.

She is survived by 5 children: Donna (Jack) Hassman of Seaford, DE; Cindy (Harold) Davis of Whitewood, SD; Neal (Barb) Jacobson of Gillette, WY; Ed (Rosie) Jacobson of Dickinson, ND; and Karen (Craig) Richardson of Williston; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a very good friend Clara Wegley.

Aunt Hazel was a wonderful person. She spent most of her life taking care of her family, especially Lois who died just a year ago on September 14, 2015 . She will be greatly missed by many. I especially will miss sending a weekly card to Bethel Home to support and cheer her up. She loved hearing what was going on with the Jacobson Family. Love You Aunt Hazel..
