Duane Olson, 91, of Stanley, ND passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley, ND.
Duane M. Olson was born on June 12, 1931 to Alfred and Selma (Narvestad) Olson in Tioga, ND. He attended school in White Earth. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Upon moving to Stanley in 1942 he completed his 8th grade education.
Duane entered the Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954.
On July 7, 1956 he married Bernadine Walter. He became a father to two girls Shirley & Peggy. Three children Keith, Kevin & Melanie were added to the family. They later divorced. After working for the ND State Highway Dept. and being self employed for a number of years, he started a career with Boeing for 27 years working with the missile defense system. On January 14, 1984 he married Pauline Alt. After retiring from Boeing, they moved to Helena, Mt. While in Helena they became very active in the local car club. Duane & Pauline bought a 1931 Chevy and fully restored it. He won several trophies on several of his cars but mainly his 1958 Impala. He owned several old cars but Cadillac’s remained his favorite. Later that marriage ended in divorce. After leaving Helena he moved to Minot, ND and later moved to Mesa, Az. After returning to Minot, he lived at The View for 5 years. He entered the Mountrail Bethel Home on March 27, 2020 where he was a resident until his death.
He is survived by his Son, Kevin (Pat) Olson of Mandan, ND; Daughter, Melanie (John) Shaon of Nixa, Mo.; and Step-daughter, Peggy Ludke of Fort Collins, Co.; Step-son, Bob Dolan of Burlington, ND; Step-son, Russell Alt of Augusta, Mt.; 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren; Sisters, Darlene Grogan of Moorefield, Nb., Bonnie (Gary) Germundson of Scobey, Mt., Sharon (Gordon) Aas of Stanley, ND. and Marlis (Raymond) Aas of Meridian, ID.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred & Selma Olson; Brother, Melvin; Sister, Arlene; Son, Keith; Step-daughter, Shirley Dolan and Brother-in-Law, Vern Grogan; Nephew, Greg Aas.
