Roger was born August 21, 1945 in Powers Lake ND, to Irving and Myrtle (Brown) Nickols. Roger was raised and educated in Powers Lake, graduating from Powers Lake High School in 1964. He attended ND State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND for his plumbing trade. Roger was a Building Trades and Journeyman Plumber. He started plumbing in Fargo, ND, later in New Brighton, MN, Milwaukee, WI and Omaha, NE before he returned to Fargo where he eventually retired. Roger helped his mother and step-father, Raymond Nickol farm during the farming season but continued living in Fargo until his death. He served in the North Dakota National Guard after high school.

Roger enjoyed fishing and going to the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, MN. Roger kept up with the happenings and news in Powers Lake. Roger was baptized and confirmed at the ST James Catholic Church. He was a life-long member of United Association Local 300 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union.

Survivors include; sister-in-law, Mary Nickols; niece, Kristi (Kevin) Hawk; two great nieces, Kennedy and Sloane Hawk; great nephew, Raymond Hawk all of Minot and many cousins.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Raymond Nickol and brother, Robert J Nickols.

I considered Roger a good friend, I had just seen him at the clinic and did not get a chance to visit with him. I worked with him on and off over the years. I enjoyed his sense of humor and his smile. He always had a smile.
