Gaylin "Bud" Monson
March 18, 1930 - July 7, 2018

Place of Birth: Bottineau, ND
Residence: Tioga, ND, formerly of Ray, ND
Age: 88

Gaylin “Bud” Monson, age 88, resident of Ray, ND, passed away quietly on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at The Tioga Hospital.

Bud was born March 18, 1930, the son of Alfred and Adline (Ihla) Monson in Bottineau, ND. He and his 4 siblings were raised on the family farm north of Bottineau near Lake Metigoshi. He graduated from Bottineau High School and sometime after graduation, he joined the military and spent time overseas during the Korean War.

In the 1950’s he moved to Ray to work at Westland Gas Station with an old friend, Jack Stewart. It was there, he met Joann McCrary and they were married in 1956 in Glendive, MT. Together, they raised 5 children.

Bud became an employee for Amerada Hess and remained there until he took early retirement. After his “official” retirement, he helped deliver the rural mail and worked part time at Viterra Elevator in Ray until approximately 3 years ago.

Bud always loved fishing, hunting, and golfing. He was always proud of his “hole in one”. In the Spring, he always anticipated the arrival of the Purple Martins and the Yellow Finches. He enjoyed watching all sorts of sports and was an avid Twins & Vikings fan. He always kept himself informed of how the Ray Jays were doing and he never did convert to a Tioga Pirate while residing at the Tioga Independent Living. Bud was a lifetime member of the Ray Fire Department and board member of the Ray Golf Association.

Bud is survived by his children, Cynthia Solberg, Patricia Weyrauch, Jim (Jill) Monson, Steve Monson, Richard Monson; grandchildren, Tracey (Jason) Willette, Angela Solberg, Amy (Shannon) Fagerland, Sara Schmidt, Darren Weyrauch, Shelby (Tim) Dodd, Alli Monson, Sami Monson; great grandchildren, Colin and Kelly Willette, Lauren and Blake Fagerland, Sean and Hayley Schmidt, Cameron and Keera Dodd.
Bud is preceded in death by his wife, Joann Monson; parents, Alfred and Adline Monson; 4 siblings; son-in-law, Jerry Weyrauch.

Happy Hunting, Dad.

Cindy, Patty,Jim,Dick and Steve, your dad will be missed by so many people. He was a great Ray Jay fan and I was lucky enough to have him, Don Ware and Melly by my side at almost all the football games I video taped for the Williams County Firestorm. His yard and garden were spotless and he loved the Ray Golf Course. I miss seeing him drive around Ray checking everything out. He stopped by Charlie’s new house and told him how proud he was that Charlie was helping Ray become a better town by coming back and building there! Bud loved Ray, was proud of his kids and loved his Grandkids and Great Grandkids! RIP Bud, happy hunting, fishing and keep cheering for the Ray Jays!

I always enjoyed working with Bud at the Ray post office. He always had such a good sense of humor and took his job seriously. I miss seeing him travel the streets in Ray past our house daily. May the Lord comfort his families during the short time period of losses between Bud and his wife JoAnn
