Elsie, was the hostess with the mostess! She always had a smile for everyone she met. I enjoy visiting with her at ELCA events. She will be missed but Elsie stories will always be around to tell.

My grandma Edna Dinwoodie was Leland’s older sister. My mom (Marlene Golay) was one of the 3 Dinwoodie sisters. I have many fond memories of visiting my grandparents in North Dakota and seeing Le and Elsie. When my grandparents sold the farm Le and Elsie had the farmhouse moved to their place a few miles down the road. It was really heartwarming to keep that beautiful home in the family and see it revived in its new location. Our visits with Elsie around their kitchen table were lively and full of laughter. She was a positive ray of light and full of joy…a reflection of God’s love. I have a couple family heirlooms that are treasures and daily reminders of the blessing Le and Elsie brought to this world. Thankful she is now at peace and in the presence of Jesus and reunited with my other amazing relatives.

What a beautiful, and on point Eulogy for such an amazing woman. It brought back so many memories of my Aunt Elsie. My first memory of her was back on the farm in North Dakota. She would make the most delicious bread rolls and she would let me eat as many as I wanted, without condemnation. If there was ever anyone I wanted to be like, it was my aunt Elsie. She exemplified love and acceptance. I never once heard her say or do anything mean. She was a delight to travel with, and we did a river trip through Germany together. Everyone was very impressed with her German speaking skills. We also did a cruise out of northern France, she was always so ready to see the world. To the end, she always enjoyed hearing about how all family members were doing, new births, etc., and she could remember everything. I’ll never forget the handmade slippers she gave me for my birthday. I wore them till they were just threads. I wanted to call more often, but I knew she slept in late, and as my day would get going, I would forget to call. When I would call, it always seemed that she had someone stopping by to visit, because she was so highly thought of. Somehow, she made it out to Snohomish for my dad’s funeral, and I sat next to her and got to experience firsthand, her joyful singing. I believe it was then, that she told me that she was the last of the Gilbertson’s of that era. She was a wonderful historian and seemed to know more about our family roots than anyone else. I am pleased that she is reunited with loved ones who went before her and to see her Lord and Savior and hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Love you Aunt Elsie, please save me a seat at your table.

Rest in Peace Elsie. I was a past agency caregiver for Elsie. She is now reunited with her husband, and the rest of her family.
