My sympathies go out to you all, she is definitely leaving a hole in people’s hearts. Lola was more than my employer, she was my friend. We shared lots of long conversations, advice, laughter, and coffee. She was going to teach me how to play pinochle after hockey season was done. She was one of the strongest women I knew. Her heart was huge, she loved her family and friends. She will be forever missed.

So many years have gone by since I first met
Lola Hansen, in her mother’s living room. Even at my young age of 14, it was obvious that she was on a mission. She was there just taking care of her household tasks so she could get back to work at Montgomery Wards and then drive to Glendive to finish her classes. I was a young teenager and very impressed with the quiet ambition of my best friend’s big sister. Not long afterwards she purchased Montgomery Wards and she never looked back, never stopped working and growing and giving back to her community in so many ways.

I know from my family’s experience that even though a business is a business, it becomes much more to a community. When someone steps up as Lola and Arnie did for Sidney and have the businesses and services and places to work that they made available, the community does not become dismal place to live t that offers nothing to newcomers or long time residents remaining in the community and hoping their hometown or adopted community stays relative to a world filled with much bigger places and opportunities for work, shopping and and entertainment. She did all of that and together they did it so well!

My heart goes out to lola’s dear family who will always miss her. To Arnie, her kind and loyal husband and partner of 62 years, to her daughter and her family and to her beautiful sisters, Rita and Jeanette, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You were blessed to have had this amazing woman to love and hold forever in your hearts.

Carolyn and I always admired the awesome entrepreneurial skills that Arnie and Lola portrayed. Lola demonstrated exemplary business savvy and communication skills to reach out to the locals as well as reaching out to former high school graduating classes, being a mother, and a wife. Sidney has been blessed by a wonderful spectacular couple.
The Bible says Jesus is preparing a place for just you in Heaven. God knows Lola's favorite colors, temperatures, flowers, and likes and dislikes and she will truly be at home in Heaven.
To Arnie and Family please accept my deepest condolences. Lola was a tremendous gift from God and she helped to make this world a Wonderful Journey. Good Memories are never taken away they are in your heart to stay!

I was saddened to hear of Lola’s passing. I didn’t get to know her until I was her nurse when she was recovering from Covid. I kept on her every night that I worked to keep fighting. Working the night shift, I was able to visit with her when she couldn’t sleep. When she heard my maiden name she told me that she remembered being at my grandparent’s home when she was young and told me stories about my grandpa the veterinarian that I’d never heard. I had to keep reminding her that us Sidney girls are tough when she would have a bad day and was so glad when she was finally able to go home. I moved back home this last fall and saw her not too long before she passed but it took her a bit to remember who I was. She was a wonderful woman with a big heart and absolutely loved her family. Heaven truly gained an angel.
