Vernon LeRoy Boline
August 23, 1930 - May 3, 2019

Place of Birth: Ray, ND
Residence: Tioga, ND
Age: 88

Vernon LeRoy Boline, 88, of Tioga, ND, formerly of Ray, ND, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Tioga Medical Long Term Care Center in Tioga, North Dakota.

Vernon LeRoy Boline was born to Ben P. Boline and Blanche Arnold Boline on August 23, 1930 at their home in Oliver Township in North Dakota.

Vernon attended Stewart School through the 8th grade. He then helped his Dad and older brother, Harry farm, raise cattle and horses. Vernon loved horses and always had a dog; they were his pride and joy. He raised horses until he could no longer take care of them. Vernon enjoyed helping area farmers. When his brother Harry had a stroke, he took care of him until Harry entered the Bethel Home.

Vernon lost his right arm in a bailer accident, cutting hay at neighbors in the mid 80’s. He was determined to do most everything with one arm, including driving. Vernon was known for his need to speed and he never out grew that.

Vernon married Leona Hersel in Ray at the Ray Lutheran Church on the 7th day of October, 2000. They continued to live on the farm until Leona entered Bethel Home in Williston. Vernon later entered the Tioga Nursing Home.

Vernon was active in Oliver Farmers Union township board and Sons of Norway, Tioga. Vernon and Leona loved to dance and visit. They were on the go all the time.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Leona Boline of Bethel Home in Williston, North Dakota; three stepdaughters, Pat Schiele of Fullerton, California, Rita Snook of Golden, Colorado and LeAnn Hersel of Fullerton, California,; sister, Alice Kaldahl of Tioga, ND and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Iva Braaten, Ida Krause and Evelyn Tierney and two brothers, Harry and baby, Arthur.

I have very fond memories of the times I got to spend with Vernon! He was always smiling and so kind and friendly to everyone he met. He always looked so forward to us coming to visit him and was so much fun to be around. I will miss his funny little stories and that contagious smile and laugh of his. He always introduced me as one of his daughters and I was delighted that he was my step-father. I appreciate that he was a kind and loving husband to my Mother and that they had many happy years together! Rip Vernon. I will miss you but you will live forever in my heart.

Vernon was one of the nicest, kindest people ever. I remember first meeting him when Doug and I would pack up the kids on a Sunday afternoon and drive out to see him, Doug loved visiting with him and he always had cookies for the kids. Vernon loved to dance and he was a good dancer and so never had any trouble finding a partner on the dance floor. He always was with a big smile on his face. Vernon left many with such fond forever memories. God bless you Vernon, and now you can "dance all over heaven".

Oh Vernon! You will be missed!! Vernon was my step grandfather. I spent MANY hours talking about horses with him. Some of my fondest memories are going out to the farm and helping with his stallion, halter breaking colts and even getting Vernon up to ride one of our horses in Colorado.

Saddened to hear of Vernon's passing. As his neighbors, we enjoyed our visits with him and his wife! They always exhibited "old time" values and the BEST in western virtues! Never did you go to Vernon's but coffee and a treat was offered and he took the time to care about his fellow man. God Bless Vernon! Dale & Kay Kruschwitz

Vernon was one of a kind, and growing up, and as an adult, always enjoyed visiting with him. As a young girl, I used to go with dad (Kermit Pederson) in the Farmers Union bulk truck delivering fuel to the farmers. That was when I first remember Vernon, his mother, and his brother. As I was older and lived in Williston, he would stop and visit when he was in town. We will miss his visits and smiling face.

Alice and extended family, I don't know how I missed seeing Vernon's obituary. I just noticed he had gone to be with the Lord when I saw Leona's obituary. May they be dancing together again in Heaven. Have soooooo many wonderful memories of Vernon. He was a caring, kind hearted man, and who could forget that smile. Oh yes, and indeed he could dance all night. Rest in Peace dear friend.
