Place of Birth: Williston, ND

Age: 69

Roger Truemen Grendahl Sr., 69, formerly of Watford City and Williston passed away March 21, 2019 at St. Alexis Hospital, Dickinson, ND.
Roger was born August 2, 1949, in Williston, ND. He was the second child born to Truemen and Arlene (Olson) Grendahl. Roger enjoyed working on his Uncle’s farm (Leif and Audrey Gravos) while growing up. He graduated from Watford City High School in 1967. Roger then attended Dakota Manpower trade school. It didn’t take long for the oil fields to lure him in. He worked for various oilfield companies before settling in with Pool Well Service for over 20 years as a derrick hand. He had many stories to share about the oilfield and there were many people he met along this journey. He worked hard and loved his job. Roger had a presence about him that filled a room. You always knew where you stood with him. He was quick to let you know. Roger was known for dubbing nicknames to everyone he met. He loved being around people and always enjoyed reminiscing his rowdy days.
On June 14, 1979, Roger married Deb Miller. Roger and Deb had three children; Lisa, Roger Jr. and Aaron.
In 1998, Roger was injured in an oilfield accident. This was a turning point in his life. No longer able to work, he lived life to the fullest.
Roger leaves behind: a daughter, Lisa (Dan) Aune of Taylor, ND; two sons, Roger (Sarah) Grendahl Jr. of Bismarck, ND and Aaron Grendahl (Amanda) of Barnesville, MN; grandchildren, Justyse Dahl, Lane (Maria) Aune, Morgan Aune, Clayton Aune, Matthew Aune, and Tracy Aune; Macie Grendahl and Isaac Grendahl; Kyler Grendahl, Rory Grendahl, Autumn Grendahl, and Rosalynn Grendahl; one great grandchild, Aylee Dahl; sisters, Marlene (Raymond) Hestera of Audubon, MN, Gerry (Joseph) Griffith of Edwall, WA, and Celia (Tom) Griffey of Spokane, WA; brothers, Kalvin Hoole/Grendahl of Spokane, WA and Warren Grendahl of Spokane, WA.
Roger is preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Ward Grendahl, Byron Grendahl, Todd Grendahl and Chad Grendahl.

Roger always called my dad uncle and for awhile in life I thought he was a cousin. Turns out roger and my dad were just good friends. I’ll never forget when we moved from arnegard to Watford roger was the first one there to help, also the one who let people who drove by know what we were doing. Roger was and is a good man. I’ll never forget his laugh.

I had the pleasure of working with Roger many years at Pool. I have so many stories I could share with you all but will just keep them for memory. He called me Uncle all the time and would go out of his way to see if I needed any help. You will be missed my friend. Until we see each other again RIP my friend. For his children I'm very sorry for your loss.

I also had the pleasure of working with Roger. There are many stories to be told some time. Roger was always the first into a mess to help and would stay till the job was done. What a hand he was. He made work fun. Thanks Roger.
