Irene Hilda (Hanson) Moore was born in December 14, 1915 in Sisseton, SD to Inga and Hans Hanson Jr. Irene graduated from Montevideo High School, MN in 1933. During high school she worked at Smiths Creamery and helped with home and child care for friends and family. She married Mark Moore in Groton CT August 28 1938, while Mark was in the Navy. Their 1st son, Gary, was born in 1939. They then moved to Sonoma, CA, where Mark owned a mechanic's shop. They then had their 2nd son, Ron, in 1943. Irene taught preschool and kindergarten class for 2 years at their church. They moved to MT in 1950 and operated Moore Dairy and Culbertson Cold Control until Marks passing in 1980. Besides milking cows, washing milk bottles, and delivering milk, Irene worked at Annetta’s Dress Shop, Skogmos and the US Post Office, and retired in the late 1970’s.
While Gary was away in the Navy, Irene raised his 3 children, she was also active in Trinity Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, and helped establish Culbertson Senior Citizens. She served in various offices and was an active member until she was 96 years old. Seeing her grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great grand babies would make her light up.
Irene loved to cook and bake, making lefsa, krumkaka, and other Norwegian specialties. She had a beautiful personality with a smile to match. Irene loved being around people. Irene resided at the Roosevelt Medical Center from 2012 until her passing. She could always be found walking or wheeling herself up and down the halls or sitting in the nurses’ station, where she found comfort when family was not with her.
She is survived by son, Gary (Ginny) Moore of Culbertson MT, Ron (Debby) Moore of Golden Co., sister, Betty Gobbs of Culbertson MT, grandchildren; Lynda Moore of Salt Lake City UT, Steve (Teresia) Moore of Culbertson MT, Gregg (Geneva) Moore of Lakewood CO, Jason (Jennifer) Moore of Austin, TX, Annesa (Todd) Vollmer of Denver, CO, Karl (Jackie) Geib of Granby, CO, 14 great-grandkids; Carrie, Joe (Liza), Deborah (Randy), Davis, Josh, Makenna, Jameson, Raelee, Lauren, Madison, Sarah, Jackson, Ella and William.
