Jeraldine Holmen, 72, of Powers Lake, ND, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Tioga Medical Center in Tioga, ND. Springan Stevenson Funeral Home in Stanley has been entrusted with arrangements.

Jeraldine Ann Gibson was born on August 29, 1946, to Ted and Dolly (Enget) Gibson. She was the second of four children. Jeri graduated in 1965 from Powers Lake High School. She then attended beauty school in Minot, ND. On August 11, 1967, she was united in marriage to Alvin (Bub) Holmen at Bethel Baptist Church in Powers Lake.

Following their marriage, Jeri and Bub lived in Minot where she worked at Trinity Hospital. During this time their sons, Christopher Allen, Spencer Gibson and Justin Dean (JD) were born. The family moved to Powers Lake in 1978 while their farm home was being built. In 1979 the family moved to the Holmen homestead. In 1981 their fourth son, Brooks Cole, arrived.

For several years Jeri was busy as a farm wife and mother. Later on she worked for 17 years at Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley. She also opened a craft shop in Powers Lake called “Pieces of My Heart”.
Jeri was known for hosting tea parties for her friends, relatives and grandchildren. She spent hours preparing and making sure the tables were set just right.

During retirement, Jeri enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, crafts and trips to Arizona. In August of 2017 she and Alvin celebrated their 50th anniversary at Bethel Baptist Church. When Parkinson’s disease left Jeri very disabled, she became a resident of the Tioga Nursing Home.

Jeri was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the women’s group and served on the decorating committee. She was also a member of the Powers Lake Civic Club and the Senior Citizens.

Jeri is survived by her husband, Alvin; her sons, Chris (Allison) and their children Lindsey and Brandon; Spence and his sons, Alex and Kadan; Justin; and Brooks (Katie) and their children Kayden, Lilly, Ella and Colten; sister, Theadonna (Merlyn) Johnson; brothers, Nathan (Marlys) Gibson and Vaughn (Jonell) Gibson; sisters-in-law, Eunice Ryan and Leanne (Lowell) Van Berkom; special aunt, Adeline Lorentzen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

I have many cherished memories of Jeri..... we were like sisters in many ways. I will forever miss her, and she will always remain in my heart and mind. She was a dear, precious woman who had a heart of gold. A mother who loved her boys more than they will ever know. A steadfast wife, who remained married to the love of her life. A faithful follower of Christ above all things! She will be missed by many!!!

Jeri was always the sweetest person. I have fond memories of listening to her and my aunt, Thea, or my Mom talking together when I was young. She always brought joy to those conversations. I appreciated the seeing the care she provided to the residents of the Mountrail Bethel Home. My deepest sympathy for her family. She will be missed.
