Darl was born on February 14, 1938, Watford City, ND the son of Alton and Ella (Fritz) Thompson. He was raised on a farm 14 miles North West of Grassy Butte, ND with his sister and young brother. Darl attended country schools and graduated from the 8th grade. They sold the farm and moved to Killdeer, ND in 1960.
Darl met Rose Steffen in 1958 and they were united in marriage on February 26, 1960, in Manning, ND. After the marriage they made their home in Killdeer where he worked for Roger Brew putting up steel grain bins. Darl also put up steel grain bins for Jerry Boehm. Darl and his family moved to Fairview, MT in 1972, where he worked for Vernon Klose on his farm. He also worked on the Charles Flynn farm and besides working there, Darl also worked at the Sitting Bull Livestock Center in Williston, ND and the Sidney Livestock Center in Sidney.
Darl attended the Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview. He enjoyed being around his family and kids. He also enjoyed western and romance books and putting puzzles together. Darl liked to cook his favorite dishes, pigs in the blanket and zucchini hot dish.
Darl passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care, Sidney, MT.
Surviving him are: his wife, Rose Thompson, Fairview, MT; his three daughters, Debra E. (Benton) Carr, Fairview, MT, Renee M. (Kenny) Erickson, Sidney, MT, and Cheryl A. (Everett) Rich, Winifred, MT; his brother, Denver C. (Mary) Thompson, Dunn Center, ND; 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, and sister, Sarah Belle Carr.
