February 21, 1920 - November 7, 2018

Place of Birth: Dane Valley, MT
Residence: Billings, MT, formerly of Culbertson, MT
Age: 98

Marguerite Jacobs, 98, of Billings, MT, formerly of Culbertson, MT, passed away Wednesday morning, November 7, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Billings, MT.
Marguerite was born February 21, 1920 to Gunder and Mamie Martin on the Martin Farm in Dane Valley, northeast of Culbertson. She along with her siblings attended the Thomsen School, walking both ways to school carrying their lunch pails. The family attended the Dane Valley Lutheran Church and when the snow was deep Papa would hook the team to the sleigh. The kids enjoyed the ride while placing their feet on rocks that had been warmed by the stove. She enjoyed riding her horse Red, and helping her father with the chores, but was never allowed to watch a calf being born.

She attended Culbertson High School and graduated salutatorian with the class of 1938. She met her future husband, Paul Jacobs, and invited him to a Sadie Hawkins dance in Culbertson. Later they married in Pierre, SD while Paul was in the Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war they established a home in Culbertson and raised their three children, Joan, Clint and Corinne. Marguerite worked many years as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell in Culbertson, and for Standard Oil (later Petrolane) as a bookkeeper.

Marguerite was a founding member of the Bethel Community Church where she was very active serving in many ways such as teaching Sunday school, playing piano and participating in women’s groups. Her deep faith and Christian values were always an inspiration to her family and those around her. The family will dearly miss the great love and acceptance she exhibited to all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gunder and Mamie Martin; husband, Paul; brothers, Francis Martin and Ray (Helen) Martin; sisters, Vera (Kenneth) Olsen, Wilma (Ernest) Faulk and Lorraine (Bob) Traeger; and grandson Eli Erdahl.

Marguerite is survived by her children, Joan (Larry) Sundheim, Billings, MT, Clint (Kim) Jacobs, Culbertson, Mt, and Corinne (Kenny) Erdahl, Helena, Mt. Her grandchildren include Lynn Williamson, Janelle (Ty) Orth, Steven (Heather) Sundheim, Paul (Chris) Jacobs, Dan (Carrie) Jacobs, Michael (Jen) Erdahl, Lane (Abby) Erdahl, Luke (Cheryl) Erdahl and Andy (Dani) Erdahl, along with 29 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Corrine, Clinton, and Joan, condolences to you and your families during this time of grief. Marguerite's friendship with my mother as they both passed through life together in Culbertson was a constant that remained. More of a kind and caring women there never was. What a glorious life she led and how proud you must be to have had her as a mom.
