Kenny was born November 11, 1933 in Watford City, ND to Henry Rogness and Adelaine (Goodmunsen) Rogness. Kenny was a life-long resident of Watford City and rural Arnegard, where he owned and operated his farm.
At an early age, Kenny was baptized and confirmed Lutheran in a Lutheran Church south of Watford City. Kenny had a stubborn and independent personality. He had a love for his cows and feeding them daily, working on tractors, enjoyed receiving pictures drawn by his great grandchildren. Kenny led the farm life and prided himself caring for his cows and land and being Norwegian. He also enjoyed the Watford area and would sit at the corner of the First National Bank, also known as Kenny’s Corner taking in all of the hustle and bustle of the downtown area and would sit and ponder life while watching the cars pass by. His daughter recalls her favorite memories as making a trip from Minnesota to Watford City without telling her dad she was en route. After arriving in Watford, Lynda would often find in somewhere in town as he was never at home and pull up beside him or tap on his window and say “Do you live around here?” Kenny would get the biggest smile on his face seeing her and hearing those words. He also was proud of the time that he took his great grandchildren to the store and bought them each a brand new pair of cowboy boots; which in turn, they were really proud of as well. He also enjoyed old country music, the farm report and watching the local evening news and being what is known as a frequent flyer at the Missouri Grill in Watford City. He visited there daily, sat in the same spot and visited with the employees; which he became very fond of.
Kenny is survived by his daughter, Lynda Scholin and husband Robert “Bob” of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchild, Jaime Smith and great grandchildren, Jolie and Bryce Starren and his best friend, Alvin Olson.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his special friends, Steve Larsen and Leroy Rogness for looking out for him, to the Doctors and staff of the McKenzie County Hospital and to Dr. Ramage and his nurse Linda; Cheryl for taking Kenny to numerous appointments and to the staff of the Missouri Grill for taking time to talk to him and their never-ending hospitality and the friendships he created. Kenny will be missed by his family and friends. Kenny would always tell his daughter Lynda, “Never Give Up” Lynda’s words to her father, “We didn’t have a good beginning in life… But we had a better ending”.
