Clifford Bakke
February 8, 1922 - January 3, 2018

Residence: Stanley, North Dakota

Clifford Garfield Bakke was born February 8, 1922, the 6 of 8 children to George and Emily (Johnson) Bakke. He was baptized and confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church and graduated from Stanley High School. Cliff was born and raised on the family farm south west of Stanley and made his life there until his passing.
Cliff’s life work was farming and ranching, which he did with his dad and brother, Orris. When George passed away in 1948, the two brothers then fully took over the operation. They continued their endeavor until the 70’s when Orris passed away. Cliff then sold the cattle part of the operation, but continued farming into the 80’s before retiring. Over the years, he rented out his farmland, but continued to help anytime he could with any job or task needed.
Cliff was well known for being an amazing storyteller and a walking encyclopedia of sorts. Whether it be just a general question or a history question, Cliff could answer it. It seems he knew everything about America, the world, community, and family history, down to the dates, times, and often giving details you didn’t even ask for or know were possible. His sense of humor and chuckle will also always be remembered.
As impressive as his memory was, so was his heart. He was a kind, generous, and thoughtful man. He had a tender heart and a “calling” to help people, groups, or organizations he believed in.
Cliff will be deeply missed by all those he touched in life and the many people who loved him.
Cliff is survived by his sister, Lylla Lake, Irvine, CA; nephews, Wayne Bakke, Great Falls, MT, Gary Colbenson, Penguilly, MN, Jack Lake, Irvine, CA, Clyde Lake, Ashville, SC; nieces, Sharon Anderson, Redmond, WA, Gwen Larson, Dutton, MT, Jane Rismon, Powers Lake, ND, Laurie Miller, Irvine, CA, Kathy LaVoie, Irvine, CA; numerous great nieces and nephews; and special friends, the Randy Nichols Family.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Orris and Emil Bakke; sisters, Hazel Sorenson, Evelyn Colbenson, Claryce Oberosler, and Lillian Miller; nephew, Glenn Miller; and niece, Evie Oberosler.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Please find comfort in God's sure promise of a resurrection as set forth in the Bible. (Acts 24:15; John 5:28,29) Those who are raised to life will have the prospect of never again being subject to misery, sickness, or death. (Revelation 21:4) I hope that reflecting on these thoughts will give you some relief during this difficult time.

Cliff Bakke, my uncle, my friend, my confidant. A wonderful kind and generous man. One could not ask for a better person to be a part of their life. I will miss Cliff dearly, and especially the many frequent talks we would have on any and all subjects. Cliff was truly the North Dakota Historian. I know that he is on high and casting his blessings below to his family, his friends, and his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Green Bay Packers. We are all blessed for having Clifford in our lives. I will always love him. God bless Cliff. Clyde Lake
