Sylvia M. Bragg
December 18, 1931 - March 23, 2017

Residence: Williston, North Dakota

Sylvia M. Bragg, 85, of Williston, ND, passed away at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Williston, surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 23, 2017, on her late husband’s birthday. Her funeral arrangements are with Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Williston.

Sylvia Marie Fayuant was born in Belcourt, ND on December 18, 1931 to Louis and Rose (Amyotte) Fayuant. She enjoyed crocheting, picking raspberries, going on sleigh rides and she had a flare for trapping white rabbits. Her most favorite food was white rabbit; where she couldn’t wait for winter to arrive. Throughout life, she enjoyed going to Pow Wow’s and spending time in the Turtle Mountains.

She attended St. Joseph’s Indian Boarding School in Chamberlain, SD during her childhood years. In the summer, the family picked potatoes in the Red River Valley. She enjoyed working at San Haven in Dunseith and working with the developmentally challenged where she met her first husband Gordon. In that union, they were blessed with 3 boys, Gordon, Larry and Richard. The couple moved to Williston where they later parted ways.

Although she had strength and independence during this time, she developed an overwhelming purpose of being a mother. Sylvia loved her family and had various jobs as a caregiver; which gained her the nickname Tootsie. During this time in life she united in marriage to Joseph Bragg, along with her 3 sons; the family was blessed with 3 beautiful girls, Kay, Karla and Kim. In 1968, Sylvia and Joe purchased a home and moved it across the Missouri River on a ferry and settled the homestead 4 miles North of Williston.

Mom was a cat lover but ultimately her favorite companions were Tinker and Coco her puppies. She was a fantastic seamstress making a variety of items from children’s clothes to upholstery coverings. She also did woodworking projects and repurposed automobile tires into flower planters. Throughout her life, Sylvia took pride in being a homemaker. Hobbies she enjoyed were canning, planting a luscious vegetable garden and stunning floral garden which included red geraniums and petunias.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Bragg, her parents, Louis and Rose (Amyotte) Fayuant, her siblings Paul, Louis (Tiny), Irene, Emma, Marcelline, and grandchildren, Sara, Sean, Teagan, Bradley and Alexis Faith.

Sylvia is survived by her companion Coco and her children: Gordon (Diane) Lund, Larry (Carolyn) Lund, Rick (Tina) Lund and Karla (Brian) Boots, all of Williston, ND; Kay (Derek) Hanson of Bismarck, ND; and Kim (Loren) Teske of Hitterdal, MN; her sisters Joyce and Dorothy; 21 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

I worked with Sylvia at Bethel. She was a good hard worker, always kind and compassionate to the staff, residents and family members. She had a kind smile, a cute laugh and a sparkle in her eye. God bless her memory, and you her family, as you go thru this sad time. Take care.

My sincerest condolences to Syvia's family. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Sylvia ~ yet I recall seeing her, and saying "hello" at various times. She just made such a sweet, and good impression on my spirit. What a wonderful woman she must have been! The pain of this loss can only be lived through by knowing that you shall be with her again one day in Heaven.
