Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral home in Williston on Monday from 9am to 5pm and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Ray Lutheran Church, in Ray, North Dakota. Pastor Steve Anderson will officiate.

Helen Alvina Pederson was born March 23, 1920 to Andrew and Maria (Loftus) Sather at the hospital in Wildrose, North Dakota in Big Meadow Township. She was raised and educated in Wildrose, graduating from Wildrose High School in 1938 as class Valedictorian.
After graduation she worked for the NYA, a government program, which provided jobs for teens during the Depression. At the beginning of World War II, Helen worked for the Williams County Selective Service Board in Williston, ND.
On March 31, 1943 Helen married Kermit Pederson in Tucson, Arizona where Kermit was stationed. The couple resided there until Kermit entered the war at which time Helen returned to Wildrose. When Kermit was discharged they moved to Ray, North Dakota where they raised their children.
Helen worked as a postal clerk for several years at the Ray Post Office. In 1976 they moved to Longmont, Colorado for two years while Kermit worked at a hospital. In 1978 they returned to North Dakota and lived in Williston since. Kermit died in July of 1989.
She was a member of Ray Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid; she was also a member of the Champion Homemakers. Helen was a published poet, along with several other writings. She also enjoyed painting.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Anne(Roger) Lowers and Marge( Julius) Zaste both of Williston, ND; sister Margaret Pederson of Williston; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren; Sisters-in-law, Adeline and Clarice Pederson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kermit; son, David in 1979; and daughter, Mary Ellen (Trini) Ghaffari in January of 2010.
